Hey SDNers, just finished my DAT and wanted to contribute a breakdown. Reading other people's breakdowns and advice really helped keep me on track and hopefully this helps someone too.
PAT: 20
QR: 18
RC: 24
Bio: 20
Gchem: 23
Ochem: 28
TS: 22
AA: 23
Materials used: DAT Destroyer, Math Destroyer, Crack DAT PAT, Cliff's AP Bio, Kaplan Blue Book, Cambell's Bio, Ochem as a Second Language 1 and 2, Chad's videos, TopScore
PAT: I was pretty bummed out with my score. My first time using CDP, I was getting 16-19. Second time around, I was getting 23-24. The keyhole and pattern folding sections on the Real DAT was just so different and difficult I thought. CDP didn't prepare me for those at all, but it was on par if not a little more difficult than the other sections.
QR: I don't know what happened here lol. I should've studied more. I only took 3 out of the 11 tests from Math Destroyer. They were pretty representative of the real QR section, but there were a good number of questions I just didn't know how to do. I've read complaints about the calculator, but I thought it was fine. Just practice using it on the computer when you're taking tests at home.
RC: I'm pretty sure I just got easy passages. I only took one QR test from Topscore and never practiced anymore from then on. I didn't feel like it was something I could really improve upon in short amount of time. I kinda used search and destroy, but instead of just skimming for the answer, I would actually just read through the passage until I found the answer, then onto the next question and continue reading. The further you get into it, the faster you'll be able to answer the questions because you will have read most of it already, I got a lot of tone/inference questions, so regular snd wouldn't have worked.
Bio: I don't know lol. I severely deviated from my study schedule, So I barely studied for bio. I just read through Cliff's AP Bio twice and looked over a few things in Cambell. I got a good number of random questions that just made think, seriously? How could you have expected me to have known that unless I have 10 subscriptions to random science magazines?
Gchem/Ochem: I hadn't taken the chem's in like 2 years and forgot everything, so I had to learn everything from scratch. This took up most of my studying time lol. Chad's video's are a great start, but they're definitely not enough to get in the high 20's. Destroyer is awesome and will expose the holes in your gchem/ochem game.
I felt Topscore was pretty representative of the real thing, except Bio and RC. Topscore's bio section really hammers in the bio diversity stuff and I didn't get a single question like that on the real thing. Topscore's RC also doesn't have inference/tone questions, and I think the passages are longer than the real thing.
I wrote this pretty quick, so if anyone has any questions, I'd be happy to help. Good luck!
(If anyone is from Orange County or goes to UC Davis, feel free to message me if you are interested in buying my materials. I could also answer any more questions you might have in person.)
