Hello,

Has anyone purchased the official ADA material for the DAT? I haven't been able to come across anyone discussing the official ADA study material on these forums. I'm interested in knowing if their material is useful for studying. Would it be a good idea to purchase their material alone for the exam and/or should I purchase extra material or something else entirely?

Thank you!

There are really only two things the ADA offers: the 2007 and 2009 official tests. Both are good to look at to get a general idea of the style of the exam, but they're both over a decade old at this point and are not reflective of the current difficulty of the test. I personally would want more material than that to practice with - both for content review and for practice questions.

Thank you for your response. Would you be able to recommend any other study material/practice exams that are representative or simulate what the actual DAT exam will look like? I keep reading that DAT Booster is a great source, I downloaded Feralis Biology notes. I'm not sure which material to invest my time and money in. There is a ton of material out there, I just don't know which one to use. Your advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

I agree with what Feralis said above. Those are over a decade old and definitely no longer representative of the exam today. Many new questions have been added, and some things have changed. If you want to use it as a test of how well you do with timed exams to avoid spending money elsewhere, it's another resource in your toolbelt! But don't go to crazy with it, especially because there are known errors in some of the questions.

Just to throw in my quick thoughts here - I used almost exclusively the Destroyer materials (including the DAT Destroyer, Math Destroyer, Free Dynamite Biology Review, YouTube videos) along with PATBooster because I really did not want to break the bank on materials. This ended up working incredibly well for me when I took the DAT, and it generally does for a lot of people. If you know the materials well enough, the time limits on the DAT will only really become a factor in the QR, RC, and PAT sections. When I took the exam, the only section I felt the time crunch on was the PAT, but I really did not like that section from the start.

Moral of the story: you don't need timed tests in order to do well. Knowledge of the content is far more important for you to score as high as you can, because no resource can predict the questions exactly as you will see them. That being said, when I took the exam some of the resources that are out now were not available, so I cannot speak to them. But I know what I did worked, and seems to continue consistently working for others.

Best of luck, you got this! <3
