First, I would like to thank you the SDN community. Now let's get down to business.

Literally, this test was so f**** up. I am actually grateful I still got a 19 AA with nothing below a 17. My topscore AA was a 21.

also, GUMDROP16 aint' a liar. I think I got a hard version for the sciences.

PAT(18). Easier than CDP in general. I never got above an 18 on all of my practice tests. The hole punching was easier but it was f**** weird since there were different size holes that were being punched and I was like WTF????

QR (18) This section was freakin ridiculous. People who said that math destroyer is on par is DAMN right. Some questions were even harder. I literally gussed 15 questions and I am happy I still got an 18. By the way, my percentile for this section was 85%

RC(17) Not much to say here. I am an ESL kid who only did 1 practice test on topscore

BIo(18) Holy ****. I memorized the AP cliff literally word for word and I think only like 20% of the book came out. If I had NOT taken biochem or neuroscience this semester, I would have been f**** big time. The randomness was just insane. I marked like 15 questions.

Gen Chem(20). I am actually grateful for this score. I really thought I f**** this section big time. Chad's videos are great but there were so many questions that he didn't cover. Wow. It was f**** ridiculous. I guessed on like 5 questions.

Organic Chem (21) I thought this section was OK. Not too bad but my first question was on sugar 🙁. I also had 3 NMR f**** question.

Overall, I was so f**** exhausted. I only took 1 practice test and it was a big mistake. I literally was about to break down after the science sections.

Whatever, its all over now and I hope my 4.0 GPA will get me in when I apply next year.

let me know if you have any further questions. -

I think you did great. A 19/19/18 is fine. If you have a 4.0 and you're not applying until next year, then I think you're even more than fine. Apply as soon as the cycle opens and you'll get interviews for sure. It's over. Go relax for a bit!

Far from failure!!!....all above the national average and 19 AA is the average entrance score for a number of schools.
Enjoy the non-study mode and feel better, (sound like you have a touch of SDNitis).

haha i aint never lie!!! ill pm you. anyway, your scores look good, especially with a 4.0. i wouldnt reccomend you retake, everything is really respectable/decent. the only reason id opt for a POTENTIAL retake but clearly itd be very risky business, is the 17 RC. but 17 is meeting the cutoff score for like every school right? sooooo yea ....i mean u have a whole year to retake if u wanted to in a few months. but i dont think u need to, not paired with ur gpa.

I have nearly the exact same stats and I turned my app in late, I've already received two interview invites this cycle. You will be fine. Take a breath.

Got 19/19/19 so i know how you feel. Frustrating but at the same time it is what it is. Just forget about it for now. If you feel the need to retake start studying in a couple months and apply early.

Do you guys truly feel I need a retake. I really really prefer NOT to do that. My life for the last 3 months has been hell. I

I think I had the same test, definitely remember a couple of NMR question that smacked me up. lol

it's over now, just move on.. the grades aren't too bad. be proud (that's what I tell myself everyday :scared:)

if you're not applying till next year, retake it if you got time and see what happens.

GL!

I personally would retake it. If I had time between cycles, I would try to improve. Schools are just so competitive now and that 17 in RC might hurt a little bit. That being said, I think you still have a good shot of getting in if you apply right. But if you raised all scores to 20+ your chance goes up big time. (QR doesn't matter though). Just my HONEST opinion.

I tend to disagree with the above post. I look at it this way... Your scores get many applicants in historically, your GPA is perfect. I would apply and have the mindset "Take me or leave me." The only way I would consider retaking in your situation would be to improve my chances at the top schools. If you don't have your heart set on going to Harvard or Columbia, take a break. If I am not accepted this round I will NOT retake (my stats are very similar to yours). But then again who am I? I don't know any more than you or anyone else on here.

Yeah. I really do NOT feel like taking this bull**** anymore. I am gonna work hard to maintain my GPA. thanks for the input.

Dude the same freakin thing happened to me! 18AA 19TS and 23 PAT and 17 in rc as well. My gpa isn't has high as your but everyone always says 20+ AA .... Psh good luck! The DAT blows. Everyone says retake....really?.... Easier said than done folks. You will be good to go brotha!

BRZ I am in no way trying to be negative first of all. I think you have a pretty good shot if you apply right. Lots of schools, early, and EC's/Letters/Personal statement are top notch. I wouldn't want to take the exam again either. But if I were to take it again, I would study maybe 6 weeks hard and thats it. I think it would make a pretty big difference. I just like security, and a 21/22 would give me a lot more security. But dont worry man! you hard work paid off and you did not fail the DAT so keep your head high.

If you have any questions about the application cycle just let me know! and keep that GPA a 4.0 (dramatically increases your chances). Sorry if I offended you, I wasn't trying to say you need to retake.

I got you man. I like to be on the safe side as well. I was pissed I did NOT get at least a 20AA for the time I spent on studying but when I was doing the test, I literally thought I was gonna get a 17 (NO JOKE). I am so grateful I got 20 and 21 on the gen chem and ochem portion respectively and nothing below a 17. I think I am just gonna chill now and continue to do my best and maintain my GPA. I also need to work on my EC:laugh:

EDIT: dude I see your stats are similar to mine. Please update me if you get any interviews LOL.

Will do! Yeah stats are pretty close. What RC passages did you get?

I am honestly is very pissed with my RC score because I got 3 very easy passages ( I think??) but they were all scientific. But I really can't complain since I only prepared like 3 days before the DAT LMAO and did like one passage on topscore. Plus I am an ESL kid so yeah haahhaah.

You did f******** great. No need to retake apply to as many school as possible. You will definitely get interviews.

Wow why are people lying to this person. What you people should tell him/her is clearly " You should kill yourself via Seppuku". You dishonor SDN's good name BRZ24.

19 is the average so don't worry about it. Your GPA is WELL above average so I feel you should be fine for most places. Avoid Columbia and UOP style schools which place more importance on DAT and you should have a very successful run in the application process. Good job!

I need you guys to be as honest as possible. Do I truly NOT need to retake? My prereqs are all from cc so that's what worries me. I'm at a top 60 university now though and still got a 4.0 after biochem and neuroscience. Please don't sugarcoat.

I keep seeing this 22+AA and it's really discouraging me. My cc prereqs make it even worsr

I feel the need to chip in here...

When you tell someone he is set and doesn't need to retake, you are doing 1 of 2 things.

1) The person really doesn't need a retake and you are telling him that he's fine to prevent him from making a mistake.

2) The person really does need a retake and you are telling him that he's fine which would CAUSE him to make a mistake.

However, none of us are clairvoyant and anything can happen come application time.

Therefore, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a retake when you clearly have the ability, the time, and the money (not as important) to secure yourself a score that will help you sleep better at night.

In BRZ's case, honestly none of you can say he's an absolute shoe-in with that DAT, even with a 4.0. However, if he took it again and got maybe a 22 or 23, he might as well just start picking out where he wants to live during dental school. So why the hell not?

Sorry if this was offensive, over the line, or whatever. I just feel like there's way too much sugarcoating going on.

Well there is no sure thing. BRZ you already know this but if you can get a much higher score and need it because you're shooting for ivies or something, take it again. Especially because you have almost 10 months before apps start!

If you just want to become a dentist, you don't NEED to retake. People with scores similar to yours make up a bulk of those admitted (at least if averages are to be believed).

Doing classes at CC is a big deal for some, just make sure you know which ones.

Don't be discouraged because others have higher scores. I have a 24, but in the last 2 months I have seen so many 25+ scores. There will always be people who'll do better and there will always be people who'll do worse. If you want to, you're free to take the DAT again and get that 22+. It can only help you.

If you ask "Do I HAVE to retake it?" The answer is a clear no. Your scores are average and they fall above all cutoffs. The question you should ask yourself is "Do I want to retake? Why?". That isn't something we can assist you with. We can only say higher scores provide better chances, while still maintaining that your current scores won't prohibit you from going to dental school.

I appreciate the response. My main goal is to get into any dental school in the country except Howard and meharry. I am applying for the army hpsp scholarship and my recruiter told me my scores are competitive. So it doesn't matter what school I get into as long as its accredited.

As far as retaking. I'm not trying to find an excuse to not retake. I truly prepared hard for this test and honestly, I don't think I could have done any better. I'm pretty happy with the sciences but while doing the test I truly thought I was gonna fail, no joke.
I don't want to risk getting a harder version of the test and possibly do worse.
I studied hard all summer so I just have to take it once. I PREFER not to take the dat again if I can get in with my current scores

Thanks

I also want to add that my response was somewhat biased towards your situation.

The fact that you have a 4.0 tells me that you're completely capable of doing better, which is why I wanted to push you to retake. You also mentioned in your breakdown that the test's difficulty was comparable to gumdrop's test...i.e. really hard. Based on pure capability + probability that you'll get an easier version of the test seems to say you should retake.

I know that you PREFER not to take it again, but exactly how much are you willing to leave to chance? Personally when it comes to dental school stuff, I leave absolutely nothing to chance.

Also, even after like 10 people told you you don't need a retake, you still posted:

I need you guys to be as honest as possible. Do I truly NOT need to retake? My prereqs are all from cc so that's what worries me. I'm at a top 60 university now though and still got a 4.0 after biochem and neuroscience. Please don't sugarcoat.

I just want YOU to be sure that YOU don't want to retake. None of us can make the decision for you, we can only sway you one way or another. The best time to retake from now would be winter break after classes are over and you got a few weeks of downtime, and you wouldn't want to miss that chance.

Obviously, there's no point to retaking if you knew you were going to get in for sure, 100%. But none of us know that right?

Alright that's all I have to say, I wish you peace of mind with whatever you decide to do. Good luck.

Man.. some of you guys could really make good lawyers  I really appreciate the responses.

I FEEL that it is easier for me to maintaing a good GPA 3.5+ for my last 2-3 semester of college rather than improve my DAT score. With this being said, I will probably stick with my scores and work on my EC (got zero so far LOL).

I think I am going to think about this for a few days.

thanks people.

by the way this is my percentile

PAT 18 (54.2)
QR 18 (84.7)
RC 17 (24.9)
Bio 18 (63.9)
Gen chem 20 (79.8)
Orgo 21 (85.7)
TS 19 (75)
AA 19 (77.6.)

my AA percentile says I did better than 78% of test takers. Do I truly need a retake ??? hahahaha I know its my decision ultimately but....sigh...
