Background information:
Material :

  • Chad’s Videos
  • Cliffs AP Biology
  • DATbootcamp
  • DAT Destroyer
  • datqvault (only for bio section)
  • Topscore
  • datagenius(the free science exams)
  • Ochem as a second language
2009 test scores:

Overall, I found the test to be harder than the 2009 dat (especially for the ochem) . rc on the other hand was significantly easier ( I averaged 16-17 on bootcamp reading and got less than 15 on one test). I found the rc section on topscore to be the most representative of the real thing. math was difficult. I only used the math problems on the back of the DAT destroyers. clearly that was not enough. I am really not good at this, so if you have any question, please let me know and I will be more than happy to respond.

With my numbers, do you guys think I have a shot getting into an Ivey league school? (with the 16 in qr)

Congratulations! You're done!

Out of curiosity, why the interest in ivy league schools?

GPA is great, but DAT is about 2 points lower than the average for those schools. However, with great extracurriculars/experience/ and a well-rounded application, it's something that can be overlooked (seen it on SDN often enough).

I'm just trying to find out what schools I should apply to and I was curious to know whether it would be a good idea to add a couple of Ivey league schools to the list or not.

16 on QR may be below the cutoff for some schools. Research before you add schools to your list.

What is your state of residency?

If you haven't already, I highly recommend looking into getting a copy of the ADEA guidebook. That was my best friend the week prior to application. It lists every school and just about any statistic you can think of (number of applicants, number admitted, avg DAT, avg GPA, cut offs, IS vs OOS preference + number admitted). It'll take quite some time to break it down and come up with a list, but it's a good place to start.

The great news is your stats put in you in a great position for most schools. The limiting factor will likely be whether you are IS or OOS.

I'm no ADCOM, but a 16 in any category is a no go at an Ivy league school.

What were your scores on DatGenius and DATbootcamp
I averaged 19s for the sciences and pat on Bootcamp. for reading and math, I averaged about 16-17. for datgenius, I averaged 20-21 sciences and I remember getting 18 for qr. I did not take rc and pat that datgenius offered.

Nice scores, congratulations! I agree with @changtw to get the ADEA Guide to Dental Schools book and see how you compare to the entering classes at the schools you're interested in. You should also talk with your pre-health advisor if you have one to see what they say, and most importantly you should call the schools you're interested in and ask what they think, since their opinion probably matters the most. All that said, congrats again!

Congratulations madel!

:clap:Very nice scores indeed..The QR score is a bit on the low side but not below cutoffs at most schools . Schools focus more on the science and reading scores and are more forgiving on a lower QR score. I would call the schools directly and if you live close by make an in person visit. You have an excellent GPA which shows are you a serious and dedicated student. It is very important that you have an exceptional personal statement, that is a very important part of the process.

The worst case scenario if you are dead set on getting into an Ivy league school you may have to take the test again.

Wishing you the very best in your journey to becoming dentist.

Take care..Nancy
