Can someone clarify this for me?
according to topscore#1 question 11 "During the ovarian ovulation phase, you would expect an increase in estrogen follow by a surge in LH".
However, this is what I got from a physiology textbook borrowed from a friend : "Just prior to ovulation, the follicle stops secreting estrogen and blood estrogen levels fall and the surges of LH and FSH at mid-cycle induce ovulation"

so what is right?
thanks

from what i read, i know that there is an increase in estrogen which causes the surge in LH. surge in LH is the reason for ovulation.

This is taken from Kaplan. "Ovulation is caused by a surge in LH which is preceded, and in part caused, by a peak in estrogen levels."

I agree with you. I took endocrinology and embryology last semester and that is the way it works

leading up to ovulation, estrogen secretion has a postive feedback mechanism in order to develop the growing follicle. After ovulation, estrogen follows a negative feedback regulation because you no longer want to develop anymore follicles and release more eggs.
