DAT in 5 days. Advice please.

Hi SDN,

I have been studying for the DAT for awhile. I have completed the general chemistry and organic chemistry section of the DAT Destroyer, and majority of the biology section. I also plan on knocking out the math section before my exam, and finishing up a couple of Chad's videos.

I have taken about 6 exams, 4 from Kaplan (sorry I don't remember the TS), and 2 from DAT Achiever.

Kaplan Dianogstic 14AA/17PAT
Kaplan Midterm 16AA/20PAT
Kaplan Final 17AA/20PAT
Kaplan Test 1 16AA/22PAT

I took these tests recently.
DAT Achiever Test 1 16AA/16TS/15Bio/15GChem/17OChem/15RC/16QR/15PAT
DAT Achiever Test 2 16AA/16TS/14Bio/14GChem/19OChem/15RC/17QR/17PAT

I was wondering how I am doing, and how well I will most likely do on the exam.

I would also like some advice on what I should do to prepare as best as I can. Please let me know. Thank you!

I second. I wouldn't count on your score improving while the clock is ticking, you're even more nervous, and you have hundreds of dollars on the line.

Not that big of a deal; Keep your head up.

Please reschedule. When you see that you are scoring at least an 18 or higher in each section then take it..there is no need to rush.

This process is very lengthy and expensive and it truly sucks having to reapply. Save yourself the money and study a bit longer...follow some of the awesome breakdowns provided on this forum. Stay positive and I wish you the best of luck.

It is a very long process if you're not ready to to do well on the DAT. This is my second year applying so I've been through it at least once. I personally think it might be in your best interests to reschedule your test and shoot to have scores above average (~19s) by the new test date.

In the mean time I hope you are able to do your best on your upcoming test. 🙂

Thanks everyone for quick responses. I really do wish I could take the test later, but I have pushed my date back as far as I can, and I don't really want to waste 300. It's because I signed up too early lol. Should I just cancel the exam? :\

I was planning on retaking the exam if I had to, but I'm not sure what to do now. Let me know guys! Thanks!

Doesnt it cost 100 to move it up if its 5 days before? I think you should do that regardless of the cost. In fact, I did that yesterday myself but I paid 60 because I still had a few weeks. I gave myself an extra 4 weeks because I dont want to retake it.

Think of it this way: Use $100 now, or do bad, then lose $385 and keep doing more studying. Its better to just lose $100 upfront and give yourself another few weeks to get the best score the first time. Read other ppl's breakdowns to figure out what you can do to improve. Best of luck

It costs you 100 bucks to reschedule at this point. But if you do decide to take it and perform badly, you'll loose the 360 dollars fee and you'll have to carry the bad grade in your record forever. Plus, you only get 3 attempts, why waste it when you know you're not ready.

I wish I could push it back, but may 14 is the last date that they allowed me to take the exam. So it's either cancel my exam or take it. I feel like I should just take it, and retake if necessary, which may be the case.

I SHOULD'VE rescheduled, but nope.. I was a ****** and didn't.
I'm sitting with 18AA, and a 16TS which is horrendous👎thumbdown👎
I'm studying for it again, and will be retaking first or second week of June.

Don't make the same mistake as me!

But I'll tell you this: it was a wake-up call for me. A real good wake-up call.
Now I ask just about every question I have, on the forum.

I rescheduled because I wasn't ready. I'm trying to apply first also, but I'd rather get a good score than having to take it again at a later date anyway.

Yes.
If you take DAT on august12, and it takes at least 2 weeks to process the DAT at AADSAS, + up to 1 week to send completed apps to schools = app completed by the end of august/beginning of september = late.

Also, from my experience, you don't want to take DAT more than once. I felt tortured taking that 5 hour exam.

Reschedule please.

Surprisingly I was able to get a 19AA/19TS/19PAT. I'm thankful for that. I will most likely retake the exam though, so I can increase my chances of getting into dental school.

Not bad at all! I think you should go ahead and apply with this score, assuming the rest of your application is in order, if you're thinking about applying this cycle. There's still room for a retake mid-cycle if you have some "reach" schools on your list. Good job! 👍

Thank you, OutRun! I plan on applying to about 20 schools, and I may retake. I'm not sure yet.

Looks like you are in good shape. You definitely put in the effort. If you understand and go over questions that you answered wrong, you should do well on the DAT.
