DAT in Jan. anyone??

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i am taking it on 30th Jan.....i will be having 6 weeks to prepare everything right after my Fall semester final exams....

I'll be taking it in February. We've got a first timer over here! I've found it EXTREMELY, if not impossible, to study with a full load of classes (including some rough ones..orgo 2, physio and exercise physio.); so x-mas break is not going to be much of a "break" for many of us it seems. Good luck everyone!:luck:

yeah! Im finishing up my last semester and I'm taking the test in a few weeks. Ive been studying with the full load for about 1.5 months now and its insane. I need to kill this test. Its my second time taking it, i need some luckkk

what are you guys using for study materials?

I'm starting with the Kaplan Blue book for review, typing notes for each section (sciences and maybe math), using my textbooks as needed, Destroyer, Crack the DAT PAT and Topscore...hope I get to everything by February...but at the rate I'm going now, that's not going to happen...ah!

haha yeah trust me IVE BEEN THERE..I hate the fact that I have school and this on plate simultaneously! There is no other way around it, you have to sit down for hours on top of hours and grind this stuff out haaaddd core!! I use destroyer (religiously!!), topscore, achiever, kaplan and a few notes that I have picked up along the way from friends....

Is this your first time taking it??

man, totally !!! it's really HARD TO STUDY FOR BOTH DAT AND OUR CLASSES :-(

I tried to study for two weeks for DAT, and didn't get to study well for my classes....so gave up :-(

I'm going to study after finals... SCARRRRRY!!

yeah, this is my first time taking it so I really dont know what to expect. I guess I'm going to crank out some crazy studying all of December before school starts up again. In theory I thought I could get 4 solid months of studying in but...plans have changed/school has consumed my time/life. Just a matter of time management, which I'm still working on...

I'm in the same situation as you. I have already taken my DAT once, and didn't do well. I am supposed to retake it again some time in January, however my only concern right now is, can I still make it for this cycle. Do you guys think it's already too late to hope for anything?

its possible....but we cant judge for you because we dont dont everything about you

Well, my DAT score was a 16, and my overall GPA is 3.5. I have taken almost all of the electives for the Pre-Dental major already, and have done research at my school for 3 semesters. So what do you think now? 🙁

I just realized... I'm taking my test on the 22nd (of december) and I'm 22 years old... and my goal is a 22. HAHA.......... come onnnnnnnn 22!!!! LOL

Is taking the DAT at the end of Summer/beginning of Fall for entry in the following academic year considered too late? Does anyone know roughly the percentage of students who apply for admission immediately following graduation and how many take a year or more off from academics.

I finished my junior year of college, studied for the DAT, got about a million interviews, im finishing up my B.S. and off to dental school in September- no big deal

Hi,

Yeah I'm schedule to take it in Dec. I hope it goes well. Can always use some good study tips. Good luck with your exam.

Annie

im scheduled to take it end of dec, but if i feel im not ready i may take it in jan, best of luck though 🙂

I'm sure many of you are already aware of this, but I thought it worth mentioning. There's a blackout date of two weeks in January during which the DAT cannot be taken. This was taken from the ADA's web-site:

Dental Admission Test Blackout Dates
Testing will not be available from 1/16/08 to 1/29/08 for annual system maintenance.

in other words, these are the dates when the ADA updates/changes the questions and versions on the test for this next cycle of people who are taking it. Good luck everyone and study study study!🙂

If your applying next year and taking the DAT in the fall, make sure you get your application in EARLY!!! You don't want anything else delaying your application.

About taking more classes after graduation. I don't think those stats are available. If your gpa needs a boost by all means delay your application a year. Take as many upper level biology courses and get As. Good Luck with your upcoming cycle. It is a long and stressful process.

Is this true??
that taking it after the black out date makes it tougher?
I am taking it on 30th....the very next day of the blackout period....

If you are well prepared you should be able to own anything they throw at you. One of the biggest weapons in the DAT's arsenal is instilling fear and doubt in you. By keeping your confidence you would have defeated part of the DAT already!

im taking it in two weeks:laugh: on jan 11th. ive only been studying for 2 weeks so we will see what happens. but i just took topscore practice test...lookin pretty good, wish me luck
