I want to take the DAT test during the summer. I already somewhat studied for it during winter break. I wanted to know whether or not it would be a good idea to set aside time during the second half of the school year to also study for the DAT? Would it be a better idea to leave the studying for the summer instead?

Hello, I have no experience studying for the DAT as I am looking to take it this summer also. From what I have read on here, it is pointless to start studying over 3 months in advance as you will likely forget what you studied by the time of the DAT. Also, it is much more important to do well in your classes this semester and maintain a high GPA, which studying for the DAT now might distract you from. I have heard it can be a good idea to practice RC and become familiar with PAT problems during the months leading up to when you start studying for the DAT. I wish you the best of luck taking your test this summer ! 👍

I mean I don't see how it'd be a waste of time to study early. Sure u might forget the Intricate details but you'll most definitely pick up the material faster and easier the next time around which would boost you ahead in your studies. Plus there are things that you can study that you'd retain, like math maybe.

I also read from other predents that studying more than three months in advance is a waste, but that logic just doesn't make sense to me. I am taking the DAT May 10, which is two weeks after my finals are over and I started studying for it Jan 7. I am going through DentalWorks 8 week study plan twice, that way if I do forget anything, I'll see it again. That's my logic... the more you see and practice, the more you'll retain when you're sitting there taking your exam.

Thanks for your input everyone. I've decided to set aside time to also study for the DAT as long as t doesnt affect my school workload.

I would, and am, studying for it far in advance.
I'll be taking mine late may or the first week of June.
I'm studying already.

Some advice...

GPA comes first, but I studied for the 2 semesters before I actually took it (summer after junior year). Make review sheets and note cards so you dont have to waste time with that in the summer, because most of what you study now youll forget. Figure out a study schedule for summer by printing monthly calendars and outlining where you want to be for each day/week.
