I'm applying in June on 2010, (this upcoming cycle). I took the DAT in September in 2008 and I got an OKAY score.

Regardless, this means I already have a score to send off once I apply in June.

Now, if I apply on say June 1st and submit my application electronically, and if I decide to re-study and retake it in July, would my application still be considered a June or July applicant?

Also, when would the updated DAT score be received by the various schools? Like I said, the file is ready (they would have already have score #1) and the updated score in July, so would I be considered an early applicant?

My GPA is slightly below average and my DAT scores were average for DAT #1. Thanks!

AADSAS does not send out your application to schools immediately. They have to process and verify GPAs and stuff. I sent mine in mid-June and it didn't get sent out til July. They hold applications in batches. The 1st batch was sent the 1st week of July. I would say that it would take a about a week to update scores through AADSAS...depends how busy they are.

If I were you, I would take your DAT by the 3rd week in June. That way, if its anything like this cycle, you will still pretty much be considered a June applicant. Thats exactly what I did. I took mine June 19th and I e-submitted my application June 4th. I was in the first mailing. Remember though, your application and DAT's are separate. Once you take your DAT's, it takes approximately 2 weeks for your schools to receive the scores. Your application will still be mailed if you e-submit early. If you say on your application that you plan to re-take, then the school will put your application on hold until your new DAT scores come in, and that is where it will slow your application down. Not like July is the worst time to apply but honestly I would get everything in by that first mailing if you can. The earlier you apply, the better your chances!

mehh, mine didn't get mailed out till the end of july, and that's when i took my dat too. still got a fair number of interviews.

Cant disagree though, earlier the better.

true, but if he wants to take 8 weeks after finals end to study instead of 3, he's gonna still be ok.

I e-submitted June 2nd

Verified in mid June

Got mailed out July 10th

Took my DAT (no previous score) on July 27th

Got 6 pre-December 1st interviews

I think you can take it in July sometime, especially because you have a decent DAT already. You will not be rejected in the summer with that score. You will still be able to get your new one in by mid-August at the latest, no worries.

So I have submit, say June 4th, then retake it July 15th, I'm still considered an early applicant?

Definitely! Scores take approx 2wks to get to designated schools. They should arrive by the end of July. Very good time!

Oh okay thanks. I'd be REALLY depressed if I apply super early like June 5th and then find out later that it wasn't really that early because of my retaking of the DAT.

So the application isn't really "complete" and "early" until the very last thing has been sent in? I still wanna be considered a June 5th applicant, rather than a late-July applicant. As far as completeness is concerned, my file is already totally complete with my DAT score. But once I retake it, I'd like them to see my new scores. I'm really freaking out because I ALWAYS hear people talking about applying early and I wanna apply super early so it just naturally bothers me that I have to postpone my application by nearly a month a a half for this.

Can anyone tell me how early is too early to start applying? I am going to take the DAT in May 2010 and was planning on applying in the summer (if I do well on the DAT that is) but I was wondering if I can start filling out the applications online now in January 2010?
