DAT kaplan course

i really need help.... i am stuck between choosing to take to $1300 kaplan course or just study on my own with DAT Destoryer, Topscore or Acheiver.... Can someone give me some advice and can anyone tell me if it is worth the money to take the dat kaplan course...

I have read some threads and they say its a waste of time but other say that the online stuff they give you with the course is really good... but can anyone tell me if the online course material for kaplan is the same material as the classroom course???

never took the kaplan course, but i know plenty have said its a waste. i would buy the kaplan book, and buy top score and acheiever, they may not be exactly to how the dat is but they will help you with timing and such. achiever pat is harder then the actual pat so it helps. if u need more help in pat- lots of people use crack the pat, its great oractice. i would deffff recommend the destroyer. i would say it was the main thing that helped me get my scores high. the questions are very difficult, and youll prob get plenty wrong when you do it the first time but the answers give detailed explanations, and they may be more hhelpful then the questions themseleves... good luck and stay motivated!

i didn't really look in to the kaplan course at all. i think that if you have the power to make yourself sit down and study on your own without someone making you do it, on your own is suffice. i used destroyer, achiever, kaplan blue book.... and seemed to do alright.

while i think the course sucked, the online material without a doubt was worth the money. so many practice exams (6 total) and many subject tests and workshops. If you need to brush up on your basics and wanna get comfortable with the material and format of test, i would recommend at least buy the online material. If you feel good about the material and the test format/timing detroyer, topscore, the kaplan blue book, schaum's bio and crack the dat should nail the exam for ya.

also i suggest you buy those materials i listed in addition to the online course if you choose to get it. If you have the money, it is well spent IMO. I studied for 3 months and for 2 of those months, kaplan online was all i used to reacquaint myself with the material and get a feel for the exam. Then i went on to the materials i listed.

Of course you should use the money you saved to get Achiever, Topscore, DAT Destroyer, etc...

I second that, my time would have been better utilized just studying on my own than being in the class. When I took the class my instructor just called on students to read out of the DAT workbook. It was a total waste of money.

i took the class last year. the in class portion is a waste of time unless you are really confused about some topic. however, to keep the satisfaction garranty you must attend every class.🙁 the only part that made it "kinda" worth it to me was the online database of questions and answers and reviews. except their quant. stuff. didnt prepare me at all..only ended up getting a 17 on quant 🙁
on the other hand my organic score went way up. kaplan's method of teaching ochem had me understanding it better than i did after 2 semester of it in college. in the end all you are really doing by taking the class is spending $1500 for access to their database. you still wont do good on the dat unless you study on your own and use that access.

after i took the class i my roomates topscore cd. and realized that with just the kaplan book and the topscore cd of practice test i could have save $1350 and done just as good if not better on the dat.

on thing i did notice though, is when i took my interview with the dental college i mentioned that i spent the money and took the course...both of my interviewers smiled and nodded in approvement and scribbled some notes down on their pieces of paper. from what i can gather and from rumors ive heard, they see the fact that you spent 1500 on a prep course for a test that will get you into dental school as a sign that you are serious/dedicated about getting in. and not just doing what daddy or whoever told you.
