I realized that in the Kaplan full length exams, for any of the math questions that has a conversion related step, they will provide you with the conversion, for example, this question:

A machines can fill 9 quarts of milk in 20 seconds. How many gallons of milk can it fill, on average, per second? (1 gallon = 4 quarts)

Whereas in TS or Achiever, i have to memorize them in order to solve the problem. I was just wondering, in the real exam, do they provide you with this info? and for those who took the DAT, how many questions were conversion related questions? I'm trying to figure out which ones i should memorize as my exam is in 3 days. Thanks for the input.

On the practice DAT I took it didnt give any of those formulas. So to be on the safe side I would memorize them.

Edit:
I would memorize all the basic ones, degrees, and all your asic conversions for measurement. As well as for liquids.

you will probably get couple random one... def know the yard to meter/mile, know the gallon to ounce to quart, etc

Three nations have not officially adopted the International System of Units as their primary or sole system of measurement: Burma, Liberia, and the United States.

arrrhhh......😡

I would memorize them, just in case.

1 mile = 5280 feet (hopefully you already know 1 yd = 3 feet and 1 ft = 12 in) and depending on the problem sometimes you can just go with 5300 ft to make your calculations go easier

1 mi = 1.6 km (this may or may not be given, but it's always a good conversion to know I think)

1 gallon = 4 quarts (duh...)
1 quart = 32 fl oz

I've never run into a Fahrenheit to Celcius conversion problem while practicing but if you need to know it's:

F - 32 * (5/9) = C

C*(9/5) + 32 = F

you know you have to add 32 to C because 0°C = 32°F, and you know that each centigrade is larger than each degree F, so going from C to F you have to multiply by 9/5 not 5/9 and vice versa (if you have to estimate, 5/9 is a bit larger than 1/2 and 9/5 is a bit less than 2)

^I think my QR test was quite a deviation from the norm. I had 2 or 3 temperature conversion problems (C to F) and I didn't know the equation, also had 3 questions about p-values (from statistics). And I missed all 5 or 6 of those because I ran out of time while trying to derive the temperature conversion equation 🙁 should've just taken guesses

Dang, that's scary.

Did they ask you to calculate p-values?! The only thing I remember from statistics class is it's used to determine statistical significance... somehow...

^Two of the questions weren't asking me to calculate p-values. One told me the p-value and then asked me to simply interpret what it meant, can't remember the second one anymore but it wasn't a calculation. The third one, I'm not sure about because I just saw the words p-value in the question, said to myself in my head "Oh gimme a f'n break," and skipped it.

thx for all the replies, just to be safe, i memorized all the conversions that showed up in TS, achiever, and kaplan, hope they don't have any crazy ones show up tmr :xf:
