GPA 3.9 as a biochem major, and my top choice is UCSF. i hope this is good enough!

anyways.... on to how i studied...



2 months. I was taking 18 units while studying. I only had a week and a half after finals to FULL ON study. So I didn't have as much time as others because I still was trying to keep my GPA high. ...I missed a lot of weddings, outings with the friends, beach bonfires, etc.....i was MISERABLE/STRESSED/DEPRESSED....but it was ALLLLLLLL WORTH IT!!!

PAT- CDP...i was gettings 19s/20s on the tests...got one 23...i always finished 15 min early.....I'm a really fast test taker..........keyhole: same
tfe: same/easier.....angles: same........cube counting: same/easier....pattern folding: a little harder

QR: did DAT 2009 destroy qr 1.5 times....thats IT...didn't time myself or anything...honestly i found this section really easy...i was REALLY surprised...i was hoping for an 18 in this because I knew I didn't study well for it...but I finished with 10 min left over and a 22...i know you won't believe me but again...I'm fast. Best strategy: if u dont get it in 5 sec, mark and skip

RC: only practice I got with this is kaplan's practice tests...I read all 3 passages entirely...the first two were really easy....because they were science articles, and I like science...the 3rd one was on ethics and morals and was long and boring but i read the whole thing, but it was harder answering the questions because you can't really spot the words as easily as in science articles.....search and destroy would've killed me if I'd used it.

Bio- I didn't think I did this well. I guess I only missed 1 or 2 max. Nothing I really studied was on there. But thank God for my AP bio background and the UC bio series...thats what helped me, otherwise I feel like I wasted time studying for this

GC- did destroyer like 3 times....I thought I would do WAYYY better in this section...i guess not! it was harder than i expected

OC- i'm the one that said i was getting 99% in destroyer ochem but 60% on kaplan subject tests...I guess u should be doing well in both...I was expecting a higher score but I'm not gonna complain 🙂

Some advice (just my two cents, take it or leave it)- do not start studying more than 2 months ahead of time, u will forget stuff.

Hey congrats, one quick question I know u said u went threw the destroyer chems and got really good at it then didn't score as well as planned. #1 did you use the 2009 destroyer that u used for QR or did u have a newer edition... And #2 did you feel u knew the material and just made careless mistakes or did you find your self ill prepared by destroyer?

Destroyer is a paperweight unless you know the material or have a good basis on it.

I used 2009 for everything...and I have a solid science background and i KNEW the material....I just don't know what happened....the gchem was harder than i expected

What do you mean by that, are you saying its useless unless i have a good foundation because if so i totaly agree. But I like to beleive i do being that i have reviewd cliffs and KBB for bio, and chad for the sciences. But is still find it pretty chalenging despit having a good grasp on cliffs and on chads vids.

Like I said, I felt like I wasted time studying for this..and while I was taking it I thought I did horrible.. you really do need a good background..u cant just straight up memorize...there are like about 3 that u have to critically think and others where they are easy like " what is _____"

Congratulations! Well done, way to do better than you expected! I'm sure your undergrad studies prepared you well. Your hard work has and will pay off. Best of luck on UCSF!

You didn't happen to take the Kaplan course then, did you?

I did take the kaplan class while taking my 18 class units...it was really hard to fit it in but I found a way. The actual class material was a waste, but what I did like about it wer all the practice tests and subject tests and the fact that there was somebody who was successful on the DAT that I could bombard with questions for 3 hours twice a week haha...my instructor was super nice...
