🙄 Hey guys--Im new to this website, and I'm really pumped to read all the great stuff up on here. I am a 2005 applicant, and I am taking my DAT this coming Saturday.
I was wondering what you all think about the schools I have applied to...I am open to attend any one of them assuming I can get into a majority of them. (okay, so harvard is the long shot)...

Oklahoma
UCLA
UWashington
UNorth Carolina
Harvard

I have a a 3.98 GPA at the University of Arizona, and I am a Biochemistry major. There are 3 dentists in my family--so I am so pumped to follow in their footsteps..🙂
What DAT score should I shoot for to be competitive at all of the schools? Oklahoma is my safety--I am a born and bred Okie girl🙂, and my dad's best friend is David Boren, the President of the entire University, who wrote me a recommendation letter to the school. heehee...I know...I am so lame. 🙂
I am also the President of my sorority here at U of A, and have done around 500 hours of shadowing and volunteering in dental clinics and offices...

Thoughts?? I am so nervous about my DAT score---I hope I dont blow it!🙂 I would love to hear from any of you!!!

Your fine. 4.0 Biochem, Letter from Prez of U. You have a week to study Ochem. No problem.

Hey thanks there buddy!
What do you think about my schools? I definitely just blindly picked schools that I thought would be fun...I figure, hey, once you got the D.D.S. behind your name, no one really looks at your diploma on your wall. 🙂 They just want you to give them some pearly whites!

Welcome to SDN, fleisch! Your stats thus far are very good and you seem to have lined up some good LOR. If you do well on the DAT, and given your gpa, I think that you stand a good chance at all of the schools on your list.

I am sure you have read the other posts which reiterate this, but I don't think it hurts to mention it again: all of the organic chemistry concepts and principles you will need to do well on the DAT are in Kaplan. Simply memorize them over the course of this next week and you should be fine. Best of luck!

thanks so much! Although, I am quite worried that you say that about Kaplan, cause guess what? I decided to forgo the whole Kaplan thing...and I have done all the studying on my own (Barron's, TopScore, and old tests/notes)....Yikes, I hope its not a big mistake! Cause its too late now!🙁

If you are referring to the course, I didn't enroll in it. I simply used their blue book. Since you only have a week, then what I would suggest is simply going to Barnes and Noble or Borders, sit down with it and copy all of the pertinent information. Purchasing it now makes little sense as, if you achieve your desired score, you won't have much use for it after next Saturday. Though it is certainly worth taking a look at.

I have taken around 5 practice tests so far, and have been getting on average around a 19AA/24PAT/16TS (which is a super low science score i know!--the ochem gets me every time!)

These schools are very hard to get a spot in if you are not a resident. I would for sure add some private schools to that list just to be safe! (Just in case that OU thing doesn't work out.) You never know!?!? :luck:

True-I figure they are all difficult...(I am an Oklahoma resident, and would perfectly happy to go to OU)...so the other schools are just for fun..do you think they are unattainable with my credentials??? Let me know, cause it would be just my luck to have applied to some of the hardest out-of-staters....🙂 Where are you in school at?

You did apply to some of the more difficult state schools, especially UCLA and UW. Do you have any research experience? Though it's not a requirement, that is one more thing that you would working in your favor. Your 500 hours of shadowing and volunteering is impressive. Good job! I agree, I would add a couple of good private schools into the mix. Case, Nova, and Arizona are three that I would recommend.

I couldn't agree more. I would only add one MAYBE two private schools for your security blanket. You are as close to "for sure" as it gets at Oklahoma since you are a resident along with the 'ins' you have. Congratulations on such great scores. You worked hard and don't let nerves get ya! You're a great competitor!
