Hi all,
I will be taking DAT in three weeks, and I am kind of worried because I haven't take any organic courses yet. I was watching Chad's videos and using Kaplan. I really wanted to give it a shot but I'm worried now because of the orgos. So my question is should I give it a shot regardless, is that going to affect my future app if I take DAT twice. I have already done everything else like applying for schools and sent all docs. Dont judge me but I feel like waste of lot money if I don't give it a shot. Help please.

Chad's should honestly be enough, but really depends how ready you are nonetheless. I started studying for DAT essentially from scratch b/c i took orgo many years before, but chad's was really amazing. If you don't think you're ready enough to hit 18+, then u should just pass for now and do it another time. As for retaking, i honestly don't think they look at it as a bad thing neccessarily. if u do much better it might even look better for u. ur call

Eh, knowing the nature of orgo it really is like a second language. I would find it difficult (for me personally) to learn two semesters of brand new material based of chads videos alone. His videos are excellent for relearning if you have some knownledge of orgo already but if you are takign the DAT with 0 orgo courses, I would be hesitant.

But again, that is my personal opinion, not trying to be discouraging. And if you are confident in your abilities and with how much you have studied so far, then by all means go for it! Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.

I recommend taking organic chemistry at your school rather than relying on Chad's videos. His videos are good but they are just a review of organic chemistry. If you haven't been exposed to it before, it is going to make it much more difficult to learn! You don't have to show up to your exam, it's going to be difficult to learn orgo in 3 weeks.

I took the DAT before I had any ochem classes, it's doable. I used chad's videos because he really focuses on what you need to know for the test. You'll learn the reagents and how they affect the molecule. The best way to practice what you'll learn from those videos is to get the DAT destroyer with the ochem odyssey book. Ochem odyssey gives you conceptual problems as well as reaction problems for every class of reaction (alkenes, alkynes, etc.). Any concepts you're unclear of can easily be looked up on the internet too.
