The problems in DAT Destroyer for OCHEM are impossible!!!

Will anyone suggest understanding/comprehending/applying the roadmap problems instead of going through 200+ problems?

If you understand OChem/have gone through Chads videos, you should be able to do all the OChem problems in 5-6 hours

Look at the roadmaps too...but honestly if you understand what reagents do to a certain compound, memorizing the roadmaps is pointless

DAT destroyer is completely doable.
Review Chad Videos
Go through Roadmaps
Understand rather than memorizing everything.

yeah ive already gone through them. sometimes it just gets rly overwhelming because they have like 10 steps and its just like UGH!!!

Keep going through them. I would not suggest memorizing the road map is a good idea. If you understand the mechanism you will be in a better position. First time around DAT Destroyer seems difficult. Once you start going through the problems the second time, you may catch on some stuff that you overlooked. Couple DAT Destroyer problems with Chad videos if you did not understand everything in Chad videos. There are many things in DAT Destroyer which Chad videos don't cover. You'll be able to figure those things out as well and do your research to understand them more in depth.

Don't worry, I know exactly how you feel because I was in your shoes last week and thats even after I had watched Chad's videos. The trick is to use it as a learning tool and not like a practice test. For me, I had a notebook out and wrote down the reactions and little facts that I didn't know.
Its easy to feel discouraged if you take it like a test because it just shows you what you don't know, but use it like a textbook after you have had a firm understanding from watching Chad's videos.

*BTW if you have time do the problems! It helps!

go one page at a time and see what you miss and really read the solutions to understand the concepts

make flashcards of roadmaps....doing them alone will automatically help then review those flash cards every night or every morning or both it REALLY helps

I would say go back and forth between DAT Destroyer and Chad's videos. I was getting about 10% correct when going through the destroyer at first, then over 90% by the end because I went back and forth. I went from a 16OC on my first DAT to a 23OC on my second.

As everyone else has said, Chad does a really good job to help you understand the concepts (better than just using plain memorization). After going through the videos and his supplemental material (very helpful), I'm getting ~90% correct in destroyer. This is a deadly combination I think for OC and GC. Guess I'll find out in 10 days.

I agree with the above posters. I tried to stay away from Chad's video because I thought it was just too much praise going on for him on SDN. I tried the videos because it's only $30 and I didn't think it was too much to lose - it was the best DAT prep decision I've done so far 🙂

Go through Chad's vids, do ALL of the O-chem problems in destroy, and if you get a copy of ORGOMAN's Organic Chemistry Oddyssey, that in itself is very good material! Cover all of it!

I personally went from OC 18 => OC 23 because I did odyssey. You should do it twice over and perhaps supplement it with the roadmaps. Roadmaps only give you basic skeleton structure for OC reactions and mechanisms.

Beware... Questions that will show up in some form or another in the Orgo section of the DAT.

-Diels-Alder
-Grignard

Two questions out of 30 may not seem like much but it will mean the difference of 1-2 points on the OC section!

Yeah I'm not getting Odyssey. My plan was for me to take TopScore #1 on Tuesday, but I think I'll just watch Chad's OCHEM videos in like two days. I use 2x speed so it goes faster. I've already seen them before so I don't know (but it was like 3.5 wks ago). Won't hurt. Then I'll write all the roadmap problems, understand the, and do about 100-200 of the problems. Although SOME OF THEM ARE TOTALLY OVERKILL
