I did a search for this, but found no results....maybe I just suck at searching, but whatever. Here's the deal, I am taking the Kaplan MCAT classroom course right now; my question is will that prepare me for all the science knowledge I would need for the DAT. I know there is nothing about the visual perception part, I would have to go over that on my own. I was just curious about the science content of the DAT.
thanks
you taking the
MCAT class for the
DAT... seems a bit out there, but anyway, here are my thoughts....
i was origianally a premed. i took the mcat, did rather well, and used kaplan and a few text books as back up references. well, after realizing that i admired the dentistry field more than medicine (300+ hrs shadowing MD's), i had knew i had to take the DAT. well, to make a long story short, i used my Kaplan MCAT to study for the DAT for about 2 weeks (the subject review sections are about 96% verbatim!). i then borrowed a friend's DAT Kaplan book to review what the MCAT doesn't cover like in biology, MCAT does not include ecology, evolution, animal behavior and social behavior. The verbal section is WAYY different. 90% of questions can be found in the passage unlike the MCAT so i didn't really bother studying for that. unless you retained all that math you learned in HS, you might want to brush up on some key formulas for geometry, trig, intrest, etc. the PAT is quite different too. for this, i guess the best thing is to practice that section with as many questions as possible. and then the thing that got me the most is that the DAT is more of a memorization test so you better start gettin on those formulas (GC, OC, QR, but
NO PHYSICS). some people don't agree, but i have taken both the MCAT and the DAT, and this is my consenses.
so, IMO, yes, you taking the MCAT prep course will help you with the sciences for the DAT with the exception of what i already said.
and to put some validity to my study methods using the MCAT stuff, i made 19-21 on every section with the exception of QR (17). i thought i remembered more math than i really did...my mistake.
although, i do think that next time i will spend more than 2 weeks reviewing for that damn thing, the DAT that is
😎
