Hey guys, I just have a few questions about studying for the DAT. First, for the QR section, I'm a little afraid. I'm considering buying some type of math textbook to help me study. I just picked up the Kaplan DAT book, but it gives hardly any examples and practice problems. I basically study and learn by working through problems. Has anyone else used math textbooks to help study for QR? Or is there some type of DAT or MCAT or whatever prep book that has a significant amount of examples/practice problems with explanations? I just would like to practice doing problems w/o a calculator, as well as be significantly exposed to obscure math concepts I have long since forgotten.

Second question is just about the level of detail that is required for the biology section of the DAT. I am taking bio1 now, and the professor doesn't really require us to know extreme detail. However, if I need to know it for the DAT eventually, I figure I should learn it now. For example, would I need to know that phosphohexose isomerase catalyzes the reaction of glucose 6 phosphate into fructose 6 phosphate in glycolysis? We had to learn a few of the specific steps of glycolysis and cell respiration and stuff, but is the most extreme detail necessary? Thanks alot -Greg

From my understanding...

DAT won't ask every single chamicals involved in cycles but you should know what they produce and what they require. Questions in DAT is more general but there are some subtlety in terms of topics they cover. That's why some questions, you ever even seen before in your bio class. My answer is you don't need that extreme details but need to know over all process.

For your math, I've seen people saying that they used SAT Math 2C book but I think it's over killing. If you are generally good with math, you don't need to go that far. Just review some basic trig stuff like Sin 2x = 2 (sin x)(cos x). Just go over a few mock exams then you will have good idea of math section. And yes, you should practice problems without calculator since you can't use it during DAT exam. To me, Destroyer math section was enough. I'm good with numbers. 😀
