When to Apply
  • Fee waivers become available on April 1, 2025. They are granted on a first-come, first-served basis, so applying early is crucial.

Eligibility Criteria

You must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be a first-time DAT examinee.
  2. Have not previously received a partial fee waiver.
  3. Be a U.S. citizen or resident alien.
  4. Demonstrate financial hardship (e.g., through FAFSA or tax documents).
  5. Have received financial aid from your school.

How to Apply

  1. Log in to your DENTPIN account on the American Dental Association (ADA) website starting April 1, 2025.
  2. Select "Submit Request" and then "Waiver Request."
  3. Choose "DAT" as the test for which you are requesting a waiver.
  4. Submit the required documentation demonstrating financial need (e.g., tax returns, FAFSA results, or financial aid award letters).
  5. Wait for the ADA to review your application. This process can take up to 10 business days.
  6. If approved, you’ll receive instructions to proceed with your DAT application at a reduced cost.

Tips for Success

  • Apply early since waivers are limited.
  • Ensure your application is complete and accurate to avoid delays or rejection.
  • Follow up with the ADA if you don’t hear back within the expected timeframe.

Hi, I just wanted to double check. We only submit the application on the website itself correct? There's no emailing? I noticed for 2024 there was emailing (or at least I keep getting routed to a docx saying to email the request).

You can request a partial fee waiver by signing in to your DENTPIN.

Once you have signed in, select ‘Submit Request’ and then ‘Waiver Request.’

You will be prompted to select the test for which you are requesting a waiver. Select ‘DAT.’

The DAT Program will review all fee waiver requests and make the final approval/denial decision. After the request is reviewed, candidates will receive an email notification of the decision and instructions for submitting an DAT application online. Please allow up to 10 business days for review of all partial fee waiver requests.
