Answer:
A is correct.

The highest melting point compound is the one with the greatest lattice energy. Small ions with large charges create the strongest attractions — and charge usually dominates size.
Here, Mg²⁺ and O²⁻ form an ionic compound with very strong electrostatic forces, giving MgO an exceptionally high melting point.
