Hello everyone 🙂

I have few questions regarding the DAT exam.

1) So I understand that DAT is divided into 6 sections (Quantitative Reasoning, Perceptual Ability, Reading Comprehension, Biology, General Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry). Which of these sections are passage based (other than the obvious reading comprehension)?

2) What exactly does the perceptual ability section cover? Can you guys refer me to some sample questions?

3) How long does it take to get DAT scores back? How often can one sit to test for DAT?

4) I read a lot about people running out of time on the reading comprehension. Reading comprehension has 3 passages, so it is the difficulty of questions or the length of passages that contribute to time constraints?

5) Is there a sample free DAT exam online I can look at?

6) I was also looking to buy DAT study material. Has the test changed over years? for example is it okay to buy 2010 version of DAT destroyer or do I need o buy the 2014 or 2015 one to get a good score.

Here is a link that is not free but it is an exact 2009 DAT test that was administered by the ada

The test has become increasingly more difficult through the years but this test will give you a very good idea of what to expect.

Also here is the 2014 ADA guide that might also answer some of your questions.

Reading and Math often give students trouble with regards to time. Students often focus more time studying the science sections and less on the reading and math, my suggestion would be to put time adequate study time and effort into all the sections. Most students have been away from math for several years and it's a good idea to review the basics and learn short cuts to solving problems in the most efficient manner. They do offer an onscreen calculator for this section, but students often find it is better to avoid using the calculate because it is not efficient. You have 45 minutes to answer 40 questions.

I advise students to spend time reading National Geographic, newspapers, etc. The more you read the faster your comprehension will become. You have 60 minutes for the reading total, just make sure not to spend too much time on 1 passage and be rushed to finish the others. Be aware of the time.

Here is an earlier post in regards to the 2015 DAT Changes, this is the information I received directly from the ADA testing department.

Hope I have answered some of your questions.

Good luck in your studies and on the DAT.

DAT is getting more and more expensive. I would only go for the latest editions of any books that people are using on this forum. New editions, with new questions, could be the difference between 20-22. Since DAT is now almost 400$, I'm sure you would not want to retake.

Good luck.

Good luck.
The DAT Test as of January 2015 increases to $415, even more reason to study hard and only take the test once.
