I ve noticed recently that the real DAT Reading require much more in depth knowledge than the simple scanning for keywords and answer technique.

Anyone here who scored reasonable well on Achiever or Topscore RC's (19 and above) but did not do so well on the real test recently?

I ve done the 2 practice RC sections in the Kaplan Blue Book. Is real DAT Reading similar to the ones in Kaplan Blue?

I've found that even though it helps to be familiar with the general terms and concepts, you don't have to know much about the passages subject beforehand to get the questions right, since 90% of the answers come straight from the text. I got a 25 on that section and I prepared for it the least of all, though I do believe it helps if you have a background in reading scientific journals, especially of a biological/medical nature.
As far as the kaplan tests go, the only RC sections I did were the ones that came with the full length practice tests, and my scores on those pretty well matched up with my score on the real test. If you're taking the tests out of the book though be extremely careful; its very, very different to do it on the computer because you just get a little scrolling window (you can't see the whole passage at one time). I recommend practicing as much RC on the computer as you can.
