I’ve gotten a lot from SDN over the last year so I guess it’s time to give some back.

PA: 18
QR: 21
RC: 21
Bio: 18
GC: 20
OC: 19
TS: 19
AA: 20

PA: Like most posters have said in the past this section was harder than any practice tests. I asked before hand if I could touch the screen and they said it was fine so I ripped off little corners from my scratch paper and held them up to the screen and marked them for the angle section, I think it helped a lot. If you’re going to do this, practice before hand because it took a little while to get use to it. Overall it seemed like there was a disparity between the problems, they were either really hard or straightforward.

QR: I didn’t study at all for this section and I think I only had to guess on 1 problem. Time was short here and I barely finished in time. I used the last 5 minutes of RC section to draw some common angle triangles and write down some trig formulas.

RC: 1st passage was on comets and asteroids and I like space so it wasn’t bad. 2nd passage was on CT, MRI, PET, X-ray technologies and was straightforward. I was familiar with all of those medical tests so that helped as well. 3rd passage was really technical on neurotransmitters and took the most time. I still finished the whole thing with like 15 minutes to go back and review.

Bio: All the questions were really straightforward and I recognized most things. Question on ecto/meso/endo, sea urchin fertilization member, 1 or 2 on ecology, genetics, cell division, etc. This section worried me the most because my background isn’t in biology. I was getting 13/14 on all practice tests so I just stopped doing them. Instead I just reviewed Kaplan book and some practice tests I got my hands on.

GC: Calculations were easier than Kaplan. No nuclear chem and I had to guess on a couple. Know enthalpy, entropy, K(sp), and molarity calculations.

OC: I just finished a year of organic and did well so I didn’t study this much. There were several synthesis problems. One of them had like 5 reagants that were added one at a time and you had to predict the product.

Testing Center: The staff was very helpful and nice. I was the only person there taking the DAT and also the last one to leave the testing area. I also got there really early because I had to drive 3 hours there and I started the test about an hour before my scheduled time.

Any questions, just ask. I’ll probably goin out tonight, and then I’ve just got to get that app in.

Good consistent scores! you should be fine to get in. I have a PAT question because that is my only real problem point. Did you try Ace the DAT? And what were your Kaplan and Topscore avgs. Thanks

Did you take the Kaplan course w/ the online or the blue book?

So nothing was really tricky right?

Thanks! I hope I can do as well as you on my DAT.

most places will let you touch the screen, but marking with a pencil & paper is cheating & defeats the purpose of the pat. i wouldnt recommend others on doing it. you could get your score thrown out.

Cheating? How do you figure, provide sources from where you got your information from? I specifically asked and they said it wasn't it a problem. I educated myself on the testing procedures and used that knowledge to do the best I could. It's just a matter of studying smarter vs harder.

No, I never tried ace the dat. I was averaging about 16-17 on some kaplan tests. I realized that I was spending the most amount of time on the front-top-side section so I focused mostly on that. I'd suggest trying to identify your weakest of the 6 sections and spend your time improving that area.

so bryan, I've been studyin QR a lot lately, and the kaplan questions are kinda tricky. How are they on the real deal? Some of the kaplan questions require you to use several different formulas and integrate them somehow to get the answer, and this takes a lot of time. I'm skeerd.

I'd say that the real QR part was easier than the practice tests I did. Most of it was just basic algebra and arthimetic. A lot of the problems involved setting up a ratio of some sort and then solving. There were several basic trig problems too, just know the basic sin/cos/tan characteristics for 30, 60, and 90 degrees. There were 2-3 problems on probability and one on simple interest. Time is the biggest thing and you have to keep moving fast, don't get caught up on one problem.

Question on ecto/meso/endo, sea urchin fertilization member, 1 or 2 on ecology, ...
Bryan, could you please elaborate on that question about the sea urchin? Was it whether they undergo internal or external fertilization? Thanks.

Sure, not a problem. It was asking about why XXXX layer formed after sea urchin fertilization. Sorry, I can't remember what the name of the layer was. The question was not asking about endo/ecto/meso. We covered this exact topic in my biology lab. Someone else on SDN had had the exact same question on their DAT a few weeks ago and they were discussing it in another thread, so maybe try a search. I do know that the answer was that the purpose of the layer was to prevent more than one sperm from fertillizing the egg.

This occurs in human fertilization too. Right? So you dont get double fertilization.

I don't know, I'm going to be a dentist not an obstetrician.

congratulations on your scores. time to relax a little.

How do you do the angles w/ a sheet of paper up to the screen? I'm confused as to how to figure out the difference b/t angles this way
