DAT Retake Dillema

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Some schools have a RC cutoff at 17, so you're still fine for that. I think they're able to see all of your DAT attempts, so you probably don't need a retake. A third try would also be risky in case your sciences go down. You might want to call a couple schools and ask though. But great job on improving your sciences and PA!

This is me in general, but I really like to set my bar high. It looks like you have great potential, and that you scored a 19 on the reading last time. If you can score a 19 last time, then you can score a 19 again or even better.

For the QR, I would try to take a different approach when you are studying. Try to bump each scores to a 18 at least, 19 for the reading, and for the science 20+.

If you do this, you can easily get a AA 19-20 and TS 20-21.

I know some people will tell you not to retake, but you have a reading score of a 17 and a QR score of a 16. Yes, it is true that dental schools don't care much about QR. However, not sure if they can overlook past a 16.

Take my advice with a grain of salt. I also retook my DAT, so you can ask me for any advice if you need to.

Would you say that reading got harder or something?

Thank you all so much for taking the time out to respond. I really do appreciate it. and also @510586 , i wouldn't necessarily say it got harder, I just don't think I did enough practice exams, My focus was so much on science during my study schedule.I also gradually improved my reading comp scores on bootcamp from 16 to 17, to 19 so I stopped at 19, figuring i would be good for a 20+ on the real thing since bootcamp RC is significantly harder. but unfortunately i really struggled with timing on my second article which ended up hurting me in the end.

It really is annoying, I studied so hard this time around but I feel like it barely shows in my Academic Average :/

Hey, your studying shows in almost everything. On the application PDF that schools see, all the scores are listed. I'm sure they will see the improvement in science and PA! I mean, you went up 4 points in GC. That's awesome!

I wouldn't say it got harder. It depends on your luck. There are two sections that determine if you are out of luck or in luck, and those two are biology and reading.

I took the DAT twice, the first time there was only like 1-2 tone questions. The passages were harder to read, but the answers were also easy to find.

The second time I took the DAT, there were a lot of tone questions. It was actually on the same level as bootcamp surprisingly.

Dang.. fingers crossed. thanks

Major improvement congrats!!!
Some admissions committees will definitely notice the major improvement in all of those subjects. I think if you apply broadly, you'll be fine, as long as your GPA is above a 3.4ish

Thought I'd update this thread, but I ended up getting 2 interviews and 2 acceptances this cycle! Thanks everyone again for the advice and feedback!!

What was your GPA if you don't mind me asking?
