So I took my DAT today after two months of studying and didn't do as well as I expected. I felt like I was not prepared a week before and wanted to change my test date (which I have already done once before) since I didn't have my math timing down, however it was going to be a compromise; taking the DAT now or waiting until mid September when semester starts.

So my scores? I've been coming to this site for a while and have only seen people in the 99th percentile post up their scores... but I figure I'll just go for it.

PA 20 - 81.0
QR 17 - 76.6
RC 16 - 🙁
Bi 22 - 97.6
GC 20 - 86.0
OC 23 - 97.1
TS 21 - 96.2
AA 20 - 93.4%

I would say I was prepared for the science section of the exam but did not really know how to tackle the reading. I'm a pretty slow reader and tried all the techniques that people talk about prior to the test but nothing seemed to work.

Obviously I know I have to retake the DAT but I don't know how I can improve on my reading... I just feel like this would be impossible to improve on. When I read word for word I get the idea, however... there are 17 questions to answer in about 15 minutes! And search and destroy just doesn't work for me either; I just end up flustering around 5 paragraphs not getting to the actual spot. And even after reading everyone's techniques, i'm still helpless. Is there any way I can improve my RC score? I would have assumed that being in college and taking science classes has given me enough practice but I guess not.

I already sent in my app materials last week and don't know what to do now... I have a 3.75 cumGPA and a 3.8 science , but now I'm afraid I will not get a second look on the application list. Im also an international student and read on another thread that with lower RC scores, admissions are even less likely to look at personal statements to get verification of reading/writing abilities. Anyone have any advice on what I should do?

call the schools you're interested in and find out what they recommend, at worst it might be time to look at other schools that you weren't interested in that might let you in with a 16 RC; the rest of your scores are fabulous. The problem with a retake is you might get a lower score on the other sections and then schools would look down upon that as well. So be careful here and weigh all your options, including going to or applying to schools you might not have considered.

then Again I just looked, your Bio is amazing, that might be enough to get you into some schools (if they will look the other way on the RC score)

sdn is such a small percentage of the population. the reason they give you percetnage is to show u how u did against others who have taken the test. only 8 people did better than you......so stop worrying. a 16 RC is great if you are international student. 50 percent of the AMERICANS here prob would get that same score. you are obviolsuy capable of reading and understanding if you got those scores. instead of relying on people, you should just rely on God.

congrats!! other than RC your scores are great! definitely call the schools to see if they'd even suggest a retake. you other scores are really fantastic!
