Hi there,

I have already taken Chem I & II, but the problem is, I've taken them a while ago, and to tell you the truth, I don't remember anything, natta zip...

Here is the question: I have time slot only to take one class to prepare for the chem section. For a review for chem section of the DAT, what will represent it the most, Chem I or II...or should I just take general Intro to Chem...

Any input would be appreciated....thanks!! 😀

I know there are Kaplan and other review books for, but I think I should really take some sort of class....

Well, I don't actually have an answer for your original question...but, I do have a perspective on whether or not to take a class altogether.

In my opinion, I think doing a self study of chemistry may be all that is needed. Let me explain. I took general chem during Fall 2000 and Fall 2001. I didn't take ochem. After that, I finished my undergrad with an engineering degree in 2004, so I didn't use chem that much (although, every now and then something would have come up). Since graduation, I worked in business, so I wasn't near chemistry until preparing for the DAT.

I just took the DAT yesterday after reviewing chem with the Kaplan blue book, my undergraduate chem book, MIT CourseWare (listened to lectures and did problem sets), and taking practice tests. After taking the test, I felt Kaplan blue book did an fine job reviewing general chem - my chem score was strong (29). So, I would think if you really need to take a course over all together.

Now, if you're still content on taking a course, I would recommend review the ADA DAT specifications and compare it with the chem course syllabi and see where there is more overlap. Also, I would imagine that chem 2 builds off of chem 1 principles...then again, it has been about 7 years since I took general chem...

I hope that helps...
