Alrighty... I need some therapy. I took the DAT today:

AA 20
BIO 19
G CHEM 20
O CHEM 19
QR 22
Verbal 21

and the demise of FutrDDS... PAT 15!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, in all honesty, my preparation for the DAT consisted of 2 weeks total, and definitely not enough practice on the PAT (perhaps 2 days worth). So I know there is room for improvement by simply practicing. However, there were reasons that stood in the way of my studying and NOW I AM PISSED. I plan to take it again soon after somehow figuring out how to prepare for the PAT, but I dont think the scores will count towards this cycle.

I have applied for this app cycle, and I was waiting for my score to complete my apps. I have applied to the following schools: UCLA, UCSF, USC, Loma Linda, UOP (which I know is out cause of the PAT), Columbia, UNLV, and NYU. Im a UCLA grad, gpa 3.6/science 3.45 and I think my resume is strong....

should i jump now or should I wait until the app cycle is over?

when did you apply (sent your AADSAS).

this one is really a though one because your gpa and scores are all very good. if you applied early, your PAT may not hurt you too much.(i am speculating). on the other hand, if you have applied really late, i am not sure if you will have a lot of luck!

I applied in late July. I know it's tough to figure this one out... I didn't get any sleep last night over it. I knew my PAT score was going to suck because I didnt pace myself well and I totally lost momentum in the angle ranking section cause they all looked the same.

I have no clue... I guess I have to just hope for the best.

dude......pat 15, that is pretty low, what happen?, you did well with the sciences and other sections. don't sweat the pat, it doesn't really mean much as for your sucess in dental school. i think you have a good shot, just relax, have a joint and chill until you get accepted... peace..

Not a big deal....some schools don't even care about the PAT. It hurts a little but I'm sure with your GPA you will get accpeted somewhere.

I?m not sure about UCSF or UCLA? I would be surprised if you don?t get an invitation letters from the other three, providing you have good LOR?s and strong reasons for choosing dentistry as a career.

The truth is I REALLLLLLLY want to go to USC. I went to UCLA for undergrad, and I was really disappointed with the whole experience except for the 0 dollars in debt I accumulated. I am really looking forward to a change.

Oh and as for what happened on the PAT... it's a combination...
1) Definitely not enough preparation
2) Got to the angle section and TOTALLY lost my cool; I mean, I got so frustrated by the fact that they all looked the same. I had been warned in advance, but I mean I screwed up. I lost time; I lost momentum... you name it, I lost it. By the time I got to the hole punching section, I was so discouraged.

The funniest thing-
when my dad was looking at my scores, since it reports the PAT between the Academic Average and Quantitative Reasoning- both scores in the 20's- he was like, "Maybe they won't even notice!"

I highly doubt it...

Hello people, i took my DAT in JULY and i got a 17 on the PAT. Even though it is better then a 15, but it really doesn't matter. Every interview i've been to, they told me they don't look at the score, it's insignificant. I have been accpeted at every school i interviewed at so don't worry. They told me at every school that they look at SCI GPA and SCI total on the DAD. So you are in great shape. Have fun in dent school!

No worries. My fellow classmate who is applying to dental school this year has similar scores 21AA and 15PAT and he has three interviews that I know of: BU, Columbia, and Indiana U (resident there). Call and talk to the schools. That is what he did and Columbia told him not to worry about it.

Those are solid scores! Good job. I am not an expert; but I think you have an excellent shot. 3.5+ GPA and 20AA; your cool.

About the PAT; I think some schools stress it like LLU. I would not be worried about it; what is done is done at least for 3 months. 20AA, 21sci is very good for only studying for 2 weeks. Before I took the DAT, I considered it to be the most important test I will ever take, and I prepare the whole summer. You should have at less spent some time on PAT. A little time on PAT will help a lot; you learn all kinds of tricks and methods that really helps.

FutrDDS, You should call the Admissions Directors and let them know you took the DAT today & that you are not satisfied with your PAT score. By talking to them, you'll learn if the PAT is really that important for each school considering the rest of your scores are excellent. Maybe you can get away with not taking it again...

And you should also see if you can fax your score report to them for review purposes until they get the official. That way, maybe you can get interview invites sooner.
