Hi everyone i just took my DAT and want to know what are my chances of getting in based on my scores.
PAT: 18
QR:17
READING: 19
BIO: 19
CHEM: 25
ORGO: 17
TS: 19
AA: 19
i am worried about my chances getting in due to orgo, QR, and PAT scores.

It would be nice if you provided us with your GPA. Other background info would help but you can probably get a good understanding yourself by reading other posts. The DAT you received would be considered pretty average. QR is not heavily weighted at the schools I looked into and interviewed (mainly California). The truth is you probably need a really high GPA to have a decent chance at certain schools. Everyone is different (race and background) and chances are just chances. Personal perspective (I'm Asian and considered a majority so I have to score higher because of affirmative action): I received 1 point higher than you for my AA on my first DAT and applied to around 8 schools (California + Arizona + Nevada) I received 4 interviews but did not get in (waitlisted 3 of them). I attempted a second time and received the same amount of interviews (waitlisted 3 of them again) and still did not get in. I ended up getting in after retaking my DAT and scoring higher and received 4 interviews and got accepted 🙂 My gpa is around 3.4 for both c and sgpa and the other areas of my application are considered solid. So if you get an interview you have a chance to win over their hearts and get in. The orgo and PAT scores could be better. Crazy Chem score though 🙂 There's always a story of someone with a low score getting in but keep in mind there are much more that don't and do not share their story.

Every year people get smarter and smarter. 1988 a 19AA was 95.7% in 2007 89.5% in 2012 70% and in 2017 60%. There's no data for 2019 but we can assume it's around the 50 percent mark now.

Your scores aren't that bad. You have a decent shot at applying with a 19AA so I would apply and see how it goes. If you don't get accepted this year, then consider retaking the DAT changing things up. But as it stands, you have a shot. Good luck!

Hi my GPA is a 3.6 and I have many shadowing hours along with starting a dental club at my school and being the president of it. I also have done a dental internship with my dentist.

I have been thinking of retaking it but at the same time i have to wait the three months which will make it september and most schools will be done giving out interviews. My gpa is a 3.6. i have done many hours of shadowing and started the dental club at my school along with being the president. I also did a dental internship with my dentist.

There's really no definite answer to it but we can only guess. Since the test dated back many many years I assumed that there was a point the DAT test question bank changed drastically, but then again maybe its always been very consistent and students are just getting better at taking tests.

As suggested by others, I would apply and if you do not get in retake the test. With a 3.6 GPA I would expect a little on the DAT. You can do it! The second time will be a breeze compared to the first 🙂 Do your research as to which schools are within your reach and you'd be able to attend. Good luck!

Is 3.6 your science GPA, I am a little surprised your scores were not a little higher, especially Orgo, are you a traditional student?

I think it's the latter; looking at the 2017 ADA DAT guide higher scores are becoming more and more common. My 24 used to be in the 99 percentile but now is 97ish. Personally, I think in the near future a 22 will be the average accepted applicant score. I was so excited when I got my score but then I realized that in reality it's nothing special. I was even thinking of re-taking the DAT and try to score higher but I realized that it is more likely I end up doing worse or get the same score and I shouldn't be greedy and try to get a higher score.

*EDIT: The study is how many exams taken, not # of applicants but still I think it's getting higher; a study that only looks at applicants still show an increase in DAT and GPA for the average accepted applicant but it is a lot more gradual but doesn't really show data on DAT percentiles. One thing that's interesting about the study is how for GPA ranges 3.25-3.49, 3.5-3.75, 3.75+, the proportion of students enrolled with this stats are similar around 24% each but for DAT 19-20 and 21+ combined make up 80% of the class on average which to me clearly illustrates DAT> GPA as if you have anything below a 19 your chances diminish significantly but for GPA there is a wider range of acceptable GPAs.

I remember reading this somewhere (could have been a study) that because there are more applicants taking the test each year it results in the schools choosing those with higher DAT scores but the average has stayed pretty much the same. So if it makes people feel better, the score they have is still as great as before but because there are so many more applicants, there are students who score higher scores but that goes for the lower scores as well. This could also result in increasing DAT averages for D school. I'm sure the study materials help too. That amazing 24 is still a boss no matter what year 🙂

You have a great shot! Make sure the rest of application is polished! Rec letters, PS, AADSAS Q's, etc! Think beyond the numbers!

I say the same thing! I have the same AA as yours but a slightly higher TS score actually 20.

By the way my gpa is 2.79 undergrad but did 2 years of post bacc classes( 3.79 gpa with a total of 47 credit hours) which brought all my gpas to 3.01 BCP, 3.03 overall, and 3.08 science.
