Hey everyone! I just took the DAT today, and this is what i got :

PA: 20
QR: 18
RC: 30
Bio: 22
GChem: 19
OChem: 21
TS: 20
AA: 22

I went into it really thinking I wasn't going to do well, and although I know this isn't amazing by any means, it's better than what I expected so I'm pretty happy with it!

I graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in French
overall GPA. 3.6
Science GPA: 3.4

I'm planning on applying ASAP, and my top choice is Michigan.

What are your opinions about my stats and my chances of getting in?

Also, any suggestions on specific schools that I should apply to would be awesome!
My LORs are from my college Physics and Chemistry professors, and from my orthodontist/mentor that I've been shadowing.

Nice scores, how did you so well on the RC amazing....

This may sound crazy, but I actually didn't study for RC at ALL. I figured my reading speed and comprehension weren't going to change by reading a few practice passages and doing questions. Im just an average speed reader so maybe I got lucky with easy passages because I finished with 5 minutes to spare (it was weird).

The only section that I consistently studied for was Perceptual Ability and I was pretty disappointed with my 20 :/

I'm normally very good at math and Gchem so again I didn't study for those as much, and look what happened 🙁 the Math section is just crazy fast paced, once I started a problem incorrectly there wasn't enough time to re-do it, with more time I'm sure I could have done WAY better.

Great stats!!! Congratulations on finishing the exam! 🙂 I have no doubt you will get in with those scores with no trouble!! All category scores are above any school's cutoff and the overall is greatly above average! Do not worry and just pick the school(s) you are interested to go.

My exam is coming up soon, and I was wondering what did you think of the science sections? were there any obscure questions and topics you encountered in bio, gchem, ochem, and QR? What study materials that you used were most similar or prepared you the best for these sections?

Thanks a lot in advance for all your help and Congrats again on your great scores! 🙂

Hey! I used a combination of resources to study for the science sections. I would do practice problems from the Destroyer, and when I went over them, not only would I read/understand all correct and incorrect answers choices, but I would go and read the relevant topics in MCAT gen chem and organic chem books.

Same with Bio but I used Cliff's and Kaplan DAT Blue Blook to supplement the answer explanations in Destroyer. I thought Bio and Orgo were easier on the real DAT than in the Destroyer, and Gen Chem was about the same. Also, some sections I just decided I wasn't going to learn, like Bio classification, and knowing the names of all the phylums, etc. I figured it would only be one or two questions, and I was right. Didn't seem to affect my score.

For the QR section, again I used Destroyer and I would Google topics that I consistently got wrong as well as KBB. I memorized the unit circle and that was actually really helpful. The most important part about QR is learning how to do the problems FAST. Im very good at math and I knew how to do every problem, but I like to take my time/double check answers, and I didn't get to finish.

It's hard to generalize about the questions, I feel like every exam is different so you might encounter some topics on your version that weren't on my at all. Just be prepared for anything.

A week and a half before my exam I took the Achiever QVault Practice tests. Which literally made me want to cry! I was getting 15s-17s on the sciences. But the truth is, those tests are just a lot harder than the real thing. If you're going to use them, take them way earlier than a week before the tests and use them as study tools to target weak areas.

For the PAT i used CDP, which I thought was easier than the real exam. And for RC I didn't study at all besides the practice test sections from the Achiever practice tests.

Hope this is helpful in any way!

Good scores. Don't worry. You did well. You should get an inteview.
