When applying to specialty school (after dental school), such as ortho or oral surgery schools, do you need to include DAT scores?

it is optional,

but I heard from my oral surgeon that you need to be on top your classes and do extremely well on NBDE in order to get into the oral and maxillofacial residency.

for ortho school... I don't know, anyone?
