I was reading through a few of the previous posts and they were talking about how dat scores/gpa were the primary factors in getting an interview for december. this made me kinda nervous because my gpa is fine, and most of my dat score is acceptable, but my pat section is terrible... i've already taken the DAT's twice and my score on the PAT stayed the same, so the chance of it increasing if i take it for a third time is slim. I've taken the Kaplan course, used Barrons, and used Top Score as well, but my atrocious score enjoys it's spot and doesn't want to go up. I guess my fear is that I will be overlooked in the application process because of that one score since so many intelligent people have done much better than me. I talked to our pre-health advisor, and she's more concerned with the pre-meds of the group to provide any kind of support for the rest of us non-premeds. any suggestions as to what i should do? and if i do take the test over, how should i prepare differently?

stressed...😱

Depending on how bad your PAT score is I wouldn't retake the exam. I know people that had decent grades and decent DAT scores with the PAT section being lower and still got plenty of interviews. I don't think that the PAT is the most important section of the exam for most schools.

Just how low is the PAT? If its less than a 15 then you may have to retake the DAT. I know plenty of people who got into several dental schools with 15-16 PAT.
Also if you take the DAT several times, AdCom will take the highscore, so it works in your favor.
Hope that helps.

i got a 16 on my pat... how many times would i have to retake the dat's for my highest score to be counted?

If you have decent gpa and Academic DAT Scores, that 16 will really not affect you if you apply to PENN. PENN can care less what your PAT is (this is exactly what they said): "We want people who can be competent Dentists, and we really don't think that seeing how well they can measure angles on a screen defines that."

Apply to PENN!
