Well I started studying for the DAT today and to say the least, I am very overwhelmed. I am using the regular Destroyer, Math Destroyer, Cliffs AP bio study guide and the ACS general chem prep book to help me study for the test. I began with gen chem then looked over bio and math destroyer. Just looking at the questions I was absolutely stumped on most of them in both the gen chem and math sections. I know that I can not expect to know everything the first day but I just feel like there is sooooo much to learn that I will not be able to get it all.

Im looking for some helpful tips that can help me with the studying process. Like are there any study tools that are a MUST get, how did everyone else start out studying, or are there any studying tips I should use to help me get over this initial hump? I am just very overwhelmed and worried that I will not do well on the test. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Also I am planning on taking the test in late August.

You have so much time to study.....Don't fret. Focus on learning and once you go through the material once, crack down on the problems every day.

For Math Destroyer, just learn how to do the problems...and then go over them a second and third and fourth time around. I was pretty overwhelmed too when I started timing myself in the beginning of destroyer tests and only getting 20/40 correct. Don't do what I did and just focus on learning how to do these problems and then once you get a hang of it, go over a test you already did but time yourself. Good luck!

Everything is definitely overwhelming at first but it definitely becomes very manageable if you put in the effort. I would suggest learning and reviewing all the material first before doing any problems so you don't feel so discouraged when you don't know the answers. It'll be a good test of how much you retained. I would also suggest following the study guide on this forum if your schedule allows since it gives a very constant goal to shoot for every day so you're on track. I also highly recommend Chad's videos for Chem and Ochem as I feel they are very relevant and to the point. I feel a lot of school textbooks for chem/ochem is a bit too much information that you may not need. Keep practicing and working hard and it'll definitely show when you take the test. Good luck.
