Hey guys, for the gen chem do we have to know all the formulas for magnesium phosphate and such? or are they given. destroyer has alot of those questions where we are expected to know that?
-along those same lines---- do we need to know all the different combustion reaction formulas.-- i can figure out the answer if i know the reaction, but i dont-- on the real dat is that given?

and for orgo--- has anyone ran into questions that have the answers for the reaction as

a) no reaction

i can see this being reasonable just wondering??

why doesnt acid chloride not reacted with a nitrated benzene ring? friedel crafts acylation but no rxn??

lastly, is there ever the time were the electron donating ring is being nitrated and they ask for the product...

and the answers choices give both the para addition and ortho addition as separate answers, that would effed up... is there a way to know whether one is favored or not?

thanks, two weeks, freaking out!

For combustion reactions, you can always figure it out.

Just know that Hydrocarbon + O2 --> H2O + CO2 + Energy.

Then you can do balancing. Chad has said this tends to show up, so you should definitely figure it out.

Yes, absolutely, know what nitrates/nitrites/sulfate/sulfite are for example or if you mean something else by this let me know

Well there is only so many combustion reactions you can memorize, do as frogger says

Yes, this is a common one that the DAT does its just part of knowing whats happening and whats happening in a given reaction. But I have hardly seen it on a test but can the ADA throw this at you....definitely yes

Ok the one that would be favored either ortho or para is dependent on steric hindrance of the electrophile and the nitro group so if electrophile is huge and since nitrous is huge, para would be favored.

This may help give you an idea of what ions should be memorized.
