Jack's car came with 5 tires and they were rotated frequently enough so that each tire was used exactly the same amount of time as the others. If the odometer reads 24,000 miles, how many miles had each tire been used?

the math. setup for this Q should be 24000/5*4=19200miles (according to the explanation)
i dont understand why i need to multiply by 4
thanks!

I don't know if this is a great answer or not, but dividing by 5 gives you the total miles traveled per tire. Because there are 4 tires on the car, a tire will stay on the car for 4 rotation cycles. So you multiply by 4. I think?

👍 Correct. Think about it. If you do not multiply by four then you only have one tire on that car. You need four tires on a car.

Basically, 24000/5 gives you the time that the one tire can be OFF of the car while the other tires remain on the car.
