Protons are removed from the stroma during the light reactions of photosynthesis. Assuming that the dark reactions operate most efficiently while the light reactions are occurring, what relative pH would you conjecture the enzyme rubisco functions most optimally at?

A .Much lower than normal pH.
B Slightly lower than normal pH
C. The same pH.
D. Slightly higher than normal pH.

I thought B because it functions better with extra hydrogen ions which correlates to lower pH?

The answer is in the question.

'Protons are removed from stroma during light reactions...' You now know the pH of the stroma is going higher during the light reactions.

'Dark reactions operate most efficiently while light reactions are occurring...' You now know the pH will be going higher while dark reactions are operating most efficiently.

You are asked about rubisco, you should know rubisco is part of the dark reactions. You can assume rubsico functions optimally when dark reactions are most efficient. You already know dark reactions are most efficient when the pH is going higher and you arrive at your answer, D.

oh got it I feel like an idiot I was think proton removed from the stoma like removed from a molecule in the stoma not ............oh well. Thanks

Good luck on your DAT
