Three days left in the ideal AMCAS submission window.

Today’s focus: the difference between your standard Work & Activities entries and your Most Meaningfuls.

We see a lot of people blending the two — trying to make every entry read like a story. That’s a mistake.

Here’s the breakdown:

Base Work & Activities Entries:

These should be clear, descriptive, and structured. Think of them as a mini-resume that talks. Your goal is to define:
  • What you did (your actual role)
  • Where you did it
  • Who you did it with
  • Who was impacted

Avoid stories here. No patient vignettes. No one dramatic moment. Save that for later. This section is about credibility and clarity. We want to trust your timeline, your responsibilities, and your reach.

Keep your phrasing clean. Use active verbs. Think: “Led weekly tutoring sessions for first-generation college students in organic chemistry, focusing on structured problem-solving.”

Most Meaningfuls:

Here’s where you shift gears. Now you can tell a story — a moment that stuck with you, a person who changed your view, a challenge you grew through. Use the space to give the reader a real sense of:
  • Why this experience mattered
  • How it changed you
  • What values or direction it gave you

This is where “show, don’t tell” actually fits. Use details. Make it personal. Bring your voice in. We want to hear not just what you did, but who you were becoming.

Both kinds of entries have a job. Don’t try to make one do the work of the other. A clear, well-structured Work & Activities section sets the stage. A compelling Most Meaningful builds on that foundation.

📅 If your W&A still feels messy or too story-heavy, we’re offering focused 45-minute review sessions this week only. Let’s make sure each section is doing its job — and doing it well.
