Hey all,

Shot in the dark since these GPR threads tend to get passed over, but does anyone know anything about the Maryland/Virginia area post-grad options? Specifically I'm interested if anyone has any feedback on the following programs -- either from attending or interviewing. I'm looking for hospital-based with lots of general stuff -- C&B, OS, Endo, Implants, etc. Limited ortho would be awesome. I'm not interested in Peds.

St. Elizabeths - Because of the type of facility it is I assume the educational focus is on patient management...???
DC-VA - Heard VA programs are strong
Johns Hopkins - Hidden gem? Supposedly do a lot of implants?
Baltimore VA - Another VA... don't know anything specific
UVA - This has a 2-yr option. Anyone done one of these?
Richmond VA - Old people need teeth.

Anything you could share would be a big help. Thanks.

Contact the PD's and ask for contact info for their residents...now would be a great time to get their opinion of the program, since they only have a week or two left

Im currently in my 1st year at UVA. So far, I'm loving it. The strenth of this program is the great deal of variety that we see. We are the only dental program in the surrounding area, so you have the option to treat anything that walks through the door. We do everything...implants, endo, 3rds, iv sedation, OR, trauma, peds, ortho, perio, prosth...you name it, we do it. Along with all the procedural experience, you get to really learn a lot of medicine. The clinic/hospital is also on the undergrad campus, so there's tons of restaraunts to eat at during lunch and plenty of places to walk to during your break.

Overall its a very solid program. You dont do a ton of just one thing, which could be a pro or a con depending on what you're looking for in a program. If anyone has any specific questions about the program, feel free to PM me. I know I'm late responding to this thread but I'm sure someone will come across it sometime and have a few questions.

Best is as you are doing, but I would also call the programs and speak to current residents. Programs change from year to year.

You also get of of a program want YOU put in... Some have the gift of presenting treatment and the patients go ahead with it.

All programs have +'s and -'s... call, visit
