DDS vs. DMD

hey guys 😀 his might be a ******ed question 🙄 but i was wondering what the difference is between a dentist with a DMD degree and a DDS degree. Why the 2 degrees and what do they stand for?

Theres no difference at all.

This is what I was told. DDS was created first. Then Harvard came along and tried to translate Doctor of Dental Surgery into latin as they do all their degrees but couldn't. <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" /> So they modified it a bit to Doctor of Dental Medicine which translated fine. They are absolutely, 100% synonymous.

Thanks for helping me get to get my facts straight. I always thought DMD was awarded to those who finally came to their senses after first toying with the idea of going to medical school while DDS was reserved for those who intuitively knew to persue the more noble path from the get go.
