I apologize if there are already threads on this subject, but I couldn't find any. So, if asked in an interview, "if you could have dinner with any 3 people, dead or alive, who would it be and why?"...what would you say?

I've thought about it for a while, and came up with:
Ted Williams
Einstein
Rosa Parks

I definitely think they're really cliche'd though. What you do you all think?

i would have dinner with:

1) Paul Farmer
2) My deceased grandfather
3) Geroge W. Bush (so I can tell him what a tool i think he is)

marks22411,
i think yours are great - well-rounded, all different types of folks. just be able to explain why you chose them and you're set. i haven't gotten this question yet, thanks for making me think!

I was asked this question during an interview, only I had to name two people. I answered one as Mark Twain because his books have a lot of social commentary and I would love to hear his take on the Iraq war and the threats to the separation of church and state. My second person was Charles Darwin so I could show him how much he has changed the field of biology. I think your answers are fine, just be able to justify them. Good luck!

Ewan McGregor: So I can learn more about his motorcycle tour of the world (The Long Way Round)
Ernest Hemingway: My favorite author. I'd ask to tag along on his next excursion.
Jimmy Hoffa: I'd ask him where he's buried.

HAhaha...I thought you were referring to the xbox game.

Great answer as long as I they don't think I'm being cheeky (I'm totally sincere):

My maternal grandparents who I never knew

i think einstein, jack kerouac (i cant spell) and allen ginsberg would be a lot of fun to talk to. maybe john lennon (so i can ask him what the f*ck he was thinkin when he married yoko!) and alice cooper (so i can ask him why he donned the mr rogers beige cardigan to do the comp usa commercial). id like to meet johnny depp and ken kesey too.

i would like GW, kissinger, nixon and reagen to wrestle in a tub of jello laced with gasoline and then bob marley could blaze that **** up. Ka boom 🙂

i like crotchety old men, so I'd say Churchill, Hemingway, and Twain

My dad (died when I was 4)
Van Gogh (I'd ask him to paint my portrait)
God (I'd ask him why he made burgers and fries taste so good and vegetables taste like vegetables)

Ah... to be young and hate republicans.

One of my favorite bands ever was Rage Against the Machine. I tried to listen to one of their CD's a few days ago and it just wasn't the same.

I'd like to have dinner with all the Greek philosophers

specifically Hippocrates, the father of our whole profession

1) Zhou Enlai
2) Henry Kissenger
3) Iron Chef Sakai

love to have dinner with all three at the same time 🙂

jesus. i can't think of anyone else that would be easier to have a discussion with.

1) Mark Twain. The guy is one of but a few uniquely american literary geniuses.
2) Seneca. I like stoic philosophy
3) Carl Sagan. I read a lot of his books during my more formative years and they really influenced the questions I ask about the world and universe.

I'm thinking the obvious choices for me would be 1) Peter, 2) Edith Wharton, and (do they all have to be together? 😎 )3) Emmanuelle Beart. 😍

(Some of you are majorly paranoid. It's funny, really.)

1. Charles Talleyrand (french diplomat 18-19th century)
2. Elias Zerhouni (director of the NIH)

and although I could never say this in an interview (and yes it is VERY gunnerish... sorry)

3. Dean of Admissions at my top choice school (aka = I'm nice AND usefull I really am)

1) Catherine Zeta Jones
2) Anjelina Jolie
3) Salma Hayek

I would make it a dinner/slumber party!

1) Jesus (I couldn't pass up the chance to talk with my messiah!)
2) Curt Schilling (I'd pay for dinner & thank him for ending years of misery)
3) J.R.R. Tolkien (advice on a book that I'm writing during the bridge year)

Bill Clinton. 'nough said.

- MK

I would make Turducken and invite a ton of people. Tolkein is way too dark. Bill Clinton for sure. Jenna Jameson then. I would also have bob marley, JD Salinger, Charlie Parker, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, Bob Dylan, all of the beatles, Chairman mao, jesus, george bush (I would put those two next to eachother) (he gets to go so we can all rip on him), alexander the great, hitler, Picasso, Mozart, Otis Redding (he died in madison), Sam Cooke, and my date would be Audrey Hepburn. I would invite grandma and definetly my plants and man professor, as he loves turducken. Frank Sinatra and the rat pack, michael moore, and kevin smith as my token big guys. Howard Taft, Jefferson, JFK, Martin Luther King Jr...that should about do it.

1) Ben Franklin (hey, who doesn't like Franklin?)
2) Jesus
3) Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha)

(1) My deceased Father.
(2) My deceased Grandmother.
(3) Reese Witherspoon (the cutest woman in America)

oh crap i totally vote for mark twain too
and emeril, so he can kick it up another notch
(but i make better omelettes! he doesnt even cook it all the way sometiems!)

this girl in my class who doesn't know i exist. sigh. stupid friend zone.

clinton and mark twain are good choices.

Is there anyone who thinks this is a dumb question? What purpose does it serve in determining if you are good enough candidate for medical school?

I apologize, but I'm gonna be lazy and just do one. I'd eat with George W. Bush. (Michigan actually asked me for the one person, hence my laziness.) My explanation is that all of the folks in the administration like to talk about what an amazingly bright guy he is. And from my perspective, I don't see it. Clearly you have to have it goin' on to get to where he is, so I'd really love to chat with him and form my own opinion. I have to admit, he is charming, so that's my ideal dinner.

If I had to throw in two more, I'll say Hugh Jackman (cuz he's the most attractive man in history) and Brad Pitt (2nd most attractive).

Jay Gould, JP Morgan, and Cornelius Vanderbilt

JFK, Lenin and....Aerosmith (wait...does Aerosmtih count as 1 or 5 people...ok maybe just Joe Perry)

ghandi, joan of arc, bill murray

1) Princess Diana
2) Bill Mahr
3) Shelly from the Tae Bo videos (I hate that bitch)

1. Aron Ralston--- the hiker who amputated his own arm to survive
2. Eve Ensler--- writer/artist, has done a lot of activist/philanthropic work for women around the world
3. Queen Elizabeth I, my all time heroine. She led the super power of her time and also got to hang out with Shakespeare.

Probably Bill Maher, Jesus, and David Hume or Descartes. It would be a tough choice though, so many people out there. Maybe I'd drop Bill Maher as I will probably get to meet him later anyhow, and add another dead guy.

1) George W Bush (I think he would be fun to BS with.)
2) Bill Clinton (cuz it would be hilarious to see his reaction to W and I slipping some cayenne pepper into his food while he was pinching the waitress' ass.)
3) lulubean (so I could tell her what a tool she is for hatin' on my boy, W.) :meanie:

Joke! My real list would be GW, Jesus, and the Prophet Mohamed so that we could sit down and try to figure out a way to get rid of some of the stupid sh** that plagues the world today.

-malcom x
-darwin
-miles davis
-matt groening
-martin luther
-the really cute guy from GNC (should've given him my digits)
-fydor dosteosky
-this patient at the hospital...i've only had short "how do you do" type of conversation with him but I have this innate feeling he probably lead a very interesting life
-jennifer anniston/brad pitt (my friend knows the Pitts so maybe this isn't such a far reached dream after all!)
-oprah winfrey
-president of Virgin records so i can record my hit single and make it big
-nat king cole
-ole blue eyes/dean martin

1.) Jesus Christ
2.) Tolstoy
3.) Bach

my husband...I rarely get enough time with him

Dostoyevsky...really cool guy who also had epilepsy
Rachmaninov...so I could ask him to write either a french horn or trumpet concerto.

1. Jesus; I would hope to have dinner by a pool or calm body of water, to see if Jesus can walk on water, to see how he responds to Hitler and he managed to be so charasmatic.

2. Hitler; cause I want to know how hot hell is, how he will react to Jesus, and how he managed to be so charasmatic.

3. Curly; from the three stooges, cause he would add humor to such a tense situation.

i'd go with:

1) albert schweitzer
2) albert einstein
3) george washington

man, there are a lot of religious people around here... i can't believe how many people answered jesus!

Jesus
Herman Melville
Jane Austen
Emily Dickinson

Leonardo daVinci
my paternal grandmother (I never knew her)
my husband's grandfather (never knew him either)

Give me an opportunity to learn about family AND have some really cool discussions about science and art with daVinci.

Don't you think its kind of generic to say Jesus. It reminds me of "Adaptation," where they called it a cop-out answer.

Anyone dead or alive:

1. Muhammed
2. Ali
3. Fatima

non religious figures (the answer I gave during my interview, just to be coherent to my interviewer):

1. Dostoevsky
2. Van Gogh
3. Churchill
