Hi

I would like to know when would be the latest MCAT I can take to be able to be considered for DO schools. Can I take one in say...November, and still be considered by them?

I have already submitted my application, all that is left is the MCAT.

There isn't a November MCAT date. You either have September or you have to wait until January and some schools won't accept January MCAT scores.

Well here is my problem. I would take it in July (as in scheduled) however I feel I need to have more time to take exams and especially study them. My idea is to focus heavily on exams given that my content review is over. I don't want to burn through the AAMC exams just to do it for a score, I want to study it to death, till I have the exam nearly memorized. Taking it in September would give me ample time to finish all TPR exams and AAMC exams. July would not offer the same...

As a side note, my application was submitted June 1.
What do you guys think?

They won't look at your app until your MCAT is in. If you take it in September, you will get your score back in October. It will probably take around a month after that to hear back for interviews if you submit your secondaries right when you get them. That puts interview invitations in November and usually interviews are a month later so interviewing in December which there aren't many dates usually because schools shut down over the holidays.

I would still recommend taking at the earliest you can. If you take the September MCAT make sure that you have already written the essays for secondaries so you can submit them when you get them and have all of your LORs ready to go as well.

Good luck.

I'm in a similar situation. My application was suppose to have been submitted this June, however I haven't taken my MCAT yet (my test date is in September) and I never turned in my application. Now, I plan on applying for next year's application period to give me enough room to improve on my MCAT (if need be) and to be at an advantage by applying at the beginning of the cycle. Some may say I'm delaying a year -- but the fact of the matter is, you have to know when you're going to be at an advantage over other applicants.

However, if you're confident in applying for 2012 I would strongly suggest to try to take the MCAT in August (at latest). But if you're in no rush like me, and would like to take more time studying for the MCAT, then by all means take it.🙂
