I recently graduated with a science degree in Exercise Science. I decided to retake a few pre-reqs that I didn't do as well in freshman year when I didn't take my grades as serious. I am currently retaking Chemistry I over the summer and in the fall semester taking 2 other pre reqs over that I am sure I can get A's in. My letters of recommendation are all strong, and I have over 500 hours, and will have more as I am working as a PT aide currently. My issue is with the grades as they stand (before the retakes get accounted for into my new GPA in late December) my application is what I would call average or slightly bellow average in terms of having a competitive GPA for the initial "weed" out process.

For this reason I am choosing schools that have later deadlines. My question is: When applying to these late deadline schools (that have deadlines in January or later) should I apply early with my current grades as they stand and wait for the "academic update" to add these courses that will improve my GPA drastically OR should I wait to apply until mid-late December and then submit my completed application.

My 2nd question is a about the Wingate DPT program. Their deadline to apply for next cycle that begins in January is 5/15/17. At first glance I thought this was a typo, but on the PTCAS website, along with the Wingate DPT program itself it states that their deadline is 5/15/17. How can classes start before the deadline to apply?

Looks like Wingate uses a rolling admissions process which means they may start accepting applicants before the deadline. You should call the school to confirm but it seems like you should definitely apply early and do the academic update later. Also from the Wingate website it looks like the 5/15/17 deadline is for the cohort that will start in January 2018. Good luck! 🙂

I just now found that on their website. Weird.. on PTCAS it refers to the 2017 cohort. Thank you for info and encouragement.
