Hi!! (My name's Ray, I'm new!)

I will have complete 82 units by December; and this includes all pre-req's minus physics 2. Now, the thing is that I'll be graduating August 2004, which is prior to matriculation. Is it a good idea to apply now (November/December)?

Units to date: 70
Science GPA: 3.5
Degree: BS Human Biology (08/2004)

I think you should, just as long as you finish your degree and get that physics class done by matriculation. If you decide to apply, you really should get on it quick. The sooner you apply, the better your chances.

Also, have you taken the DAT yet? If no, you need to write that ASAP, and get your scores sent to your schools.

Take practice DAT at least 3-4 times and then apply. Its not a bad idea but again its u r decision. If you are applying for next year, u can apply in June 2004 . Good luck friend.

DentalDream!!!!!

This is soooo motivating!!! I can, like, feel the ENERGY!!!

I guess I am forced to do it since my first response is positive; and this after my buddy (USC Dental '07) has told me not to sweat!

Thanks buddy. Oh yeah, the DAT😎

I'd say go for it. Make it a priority to complete your AADSAS packet ASAP, and take the DAT pronto if you haven't already. You'll be graduated before you enroll at dental school, so that won't be a block. Your GPA is competitive, so just rock the DAT and you should be set to go! Good luck! 😀

Ray,

Welcome to SDN. I am not going to be as optimistic as others. Rather, I am more concered with you being able to finish things in time. In most schools you cant take physics I and II at the same time. So, that could be a problem. Also, most schools will want to see that you have earned your B.S or B.A degree by July 1st of 2004. graduating August 2004 is a bit late as some dental schools have already started their classes/orientation. i know some schools who withdrew some of their students just b/c their degree was not complete. I'd check with the schools before applying this year.

good luck to you.

Ray, welcome to SDN!

I thought I'd point out that there *are* schools that begin classes prior to August, so be careful when you choose where to apply.

Ooops, just saw that Comet posted the same thing.

With your GPA, which is good, and solid DAT scores, you could let schools know that you plan on going to dental school WITHOUT a degree, which would let you quit school once you have gotten an acceptance. This also ensures that your undergrad won't overlap with dental school, which it probably will if you graduate as late as August.

You're absolutely right, Gavin.

One would think that, attending a school where D1 classes start July 7, I might've thought to mention that 🙄 Way to cover my back.

OOOH WOW! These young rascals are just swell!! You Youngins are knockin us oldies of our rocking chairs! I would give a hoot about you applying so early though! Why so early? 100% you wanna be looking at peoples smelly oral infected mucous membranes? Go for it!
