Soo... basically my boss is a butthole. You know, one of those ones that tries to nickpick at everything you do and knows more swear words than actual words. He's also trying to get me to work every weekend when during my interview and on the listing he said it would be every other weekend.

I stood up to him a few days after I started and simply just said that I didn't want to work in a place that had this kind of atmosphere. to which he replied that he would "try" to work on his harassing behavior. It got better for a day but then it got worse, I think he started picking on me cuz I'm the only one there with enough of a backbone to stand up for myself.

I've applied to as many jobs openings as I can and everyday I go back home and apply to more. I obviously haven't found anything else yet. Though that's not surprising being that I'm in NJ. I've only been there for a month but it seems to be getting worse everyday, I'm trying to just deal under I find another job and can quit.

Does anyone have any tips for dealing with bosses like this? It's an independent so it's not like I can go to HR or anything, and he's the owner and he's there all day everyday, so that doesn't help.

I thought that independent pharmacies were supposed to be better, but wow. I hope I just got a bad apple.

all kidding aside, don't confront the guy in front of everybody because you don't want to make him defensive. and when you do have a one-on-one with him, if it's a one-party consent state, consider recording your conversation with him. above all else, don't take it personal. he might just be stressed out to the max and doesn't know to manage under pressure.

Ive had a situation like that. After multiple attempts to explain him that he is mistreating me, I wrote a letter to HR. Now, he is the nicest guys ever and we have great relationship. I highly recommend going to HR.

If a person came up to me and asked whether they should stay with their abusive life partner or how to deal with their abusive spouse I would tell them to leave. I think too often in the workplace we put up with absolute nonsense which only enables these jerks to never change their behavior.

I respect your decision if you decide to bite your tongue, be miserable and stay. I respect your decision if you decide to stop being miserable every day you get up to go to work and resign.

Been there... I quit and only regret that I didn't do it sooner. I waited until I had another job opportunity locked down, but I didn't have to stay for financial reasons since at the time I was still an intern and it was a part time gig. As a pharmacist I haven't been in that situation, thank goodness. I've floated around to a lot of different stores and it is so hard to find a good store. Your story is why I prefer floating.. no matter how bad the day is you usually don't have to go back tomorrow. Hang in there!

Did you read the post? How do you go to HR when it is an independent and the owner is the problem?

I would resign. Do it sooner and you will not regret it. This kind of person will not change or stop abusing you. In fact, they enjoy doing this to others.

I wouldn't resign until I have another job. In this job market, you need to have a job in order to get a job. Furthermore, you don't want to spend time explaining to your interviewers why you quit.

Being abusive is not legal. But being abusive to an employee because of his or her ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability is. Something to keep in mind if he doesn't stop.

Also, is his pharmacy committing medicare fraud? lol

You have to play fire with fire with bullies:

"The False Claims Act pays whistleblowers a reward of between 15 and 25 percent of what the government collects based on your report of Medicare fraud (or Medicaid fraud)."

I had an abusive boss when I was an intern. She didn't only take advantage of me but also other interns. She asked us to come in for "training". She was supposed to pay us but she didn't because she wants to keep her budget low and she wants to look good in front of her boss. None of the interns spoke up. Being such a nice guy, I pursued it. Got everything documented. She backed down and paid me. I won that battle but I eventually lost the war. I was an intern then so I didn't know how to pursue it. I guess I could have kept my mouth shut. I did eventually land another internship..retail. Because of that experience, I made sure I don't work in retail as a pharmacist.

can u call it workplace harassment? just document everything said, date and time, and keep a log... a lawsuit will let u be your own boss. its a lot of money. definitely keep a print out of the job description (every other weekend?) if its still available.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies!

I'm still chugging along.... I'm actually not putting this job on my resume since I'm trying to quit ASAP and that won't look good lol.

I'm not sure if he's committing medicare fraud, I haven't been trained on any of the computer stuff, though I should find out.

He does say a few discriminatory things, I have to get a good recording device (my phone doesn't work well bc it's in my pocket all the time and all you can hear is clothing rustling)

Chances are, other employers in the region know that this is a very difficult place to work at, and whaddya bet he's an independent businessman because he can't get along with people? How does he treat customers, BTW?

BTDTWTT. 🙁
