At a school where I recently interviewed, I was interviewed by the Dean Of Admissions. So does his opinion carry significantly more weight than other interviewers, or is his opinion no stronger than the others on the admissions committee? I realize that this will probably vary a bit from school to school, but in general, does the admission dean's opinion carry more weight?

I'm under the impression that the dean really liked me and we seemed to get along really well. The 2nd person I interviewed with I am less sure of his opinion of me. Do you think that the dean's opinion will carry much more weight than my other interviewer's opinion?

I'd think it would carry more, but there's no way to say for sure. And another thing...there's no way to really determine from your subjective feelings about how the interview went how much the interviewer really liked you. I know it sucks to wait, but speculating about it at this point is worthless...you gave it your best shot and now you just have to wait and see what happens. Good luck!

Depends on the structure of the process:

Some schools are a vote of the entire committee. But I definitely people would listen to the thoughts of the dean. But another member of the committee may be as influential, if they can speak in the voter meeting before the vote. Younger interviewers and those that are not on the committee would have less say. Younger interviewers often give only positive reviews and are not highly considered, and without a voice in meetings the committee only has the written report.

Other schools, the dean of admissions may have almost complete say and be able to decide the final acceptances, with the input and scoring of files but other adcom members. I am not sure if this is so common though.
