You know how every dental school has a dean and then admission counselors...have any of you contacted the dean DIRECTLY and asked him/her to advise/recommend/look at your stats?

I would not advice to try to force the dean to answer your phone call. If you call talk to whomever answers the phone and if need be they will refer you to somebody else who can better answer your questions. You might leave a bad impression if you tried to force it. Talk to whomever is answers the deans have other things going on not just admission issues.

Calling the dean would be intimidating as hell...i was talking about email.

I emailed the dean at my top choice and then met with him to set up a plan as I am a non-traditional student. I have also met with him a few times since then to check in and update him on my progress. He's been very cool about helping me out. I guess it depends on willing the dean is to help.

Oh. Emailing them will be fine. I personally have done it to several schools. Just give them time to respond, like a week or so.

Well, I think it's ok to contact with Dean; however, if he/she could not reply to you, yes, don't force him/her.

what type of questions did you pose to him?

I told him my situation and reasons for deciding on a career change. I asked him what classes he wanted to see beyond prereqs, and what he suggested as far as sequencing the classes while I was back in school. He basically said, these are the classes I want to see, this is the order I would suggest doing them in, get A's, and when to take the DAT. He was extremely helpful. I called another school early on to meet with their dean and was told there was no need to meet that all of the information was on the website. So needless to say, I wasn't very impressed by that response since I had already met with a dean that was very willing to help me out. I think it says a lot about the school if you get that kind of attention.
