I originally did not intend on putting Dean's List in the work/activities section, but I am now considering it because it does not show up for one semester on my transcript even though I met the criteria. The reason for this is that a professor entered my grade incorrectly, disqualifying me for Dean's List, and took an unreasonable amount of time to get it corrected. The office of the registrar says that no changes are permitted to the Dean's List after it is published.

Should I make a section for it on AMCAS and explain what happened? I know they can see my GPA each semester, but as someone with a lowish GPA, I feel like it would've been important to see 4 straight Dean's List honors after underperforming in my 2nd and 3rd semesters.

@dcmorgan96 ... it's unnecessary - especially since adcoms can see your GPA breakdown - based on BCPM and AO per quarter/semester.

Many applicants have earned "Dean's List" transcript notations and Dean's List cut-off criteria often varies between different schools.

FWIW ... it is advisable to fill-in your ECs with much more useful information/activities/awards that demonstrate your potential as an aspiring physician (e.g., publications, research, volunteering, employment, community service, etc.).

Thanks for the advice. I hadn't planned on putting it but was mostly wondering if any med schools would wonder why I was seemingly left off of the Dean's List for a semester that meets the criteria (maybe they would assume something bad)

If you are worried about how this will be perceived, then don't mention Deans List for any term among your Awards/Honors. Your transcript speaks for itself.

@Catalystik Ah, gotcha. I thought that putting it down would help to clarify the situation, but you feel that including it would draw unnecessary attention to it?

Personally, I think that including Deans List at all is completely unnecessary, considering that the criteria for it vary from school to school. I'd imagine that most adcomm eyes slip right over it when it's mentioned. If a term were missing amid a list of terms, it wouldn't be noticed. If all terms were included, it wouldn't consciously be noted by the reader. Really, it's a bit of fluff, but it's tolerated due to its historical presence on applications. JMO.

Great, thank you!
