Dear Henna:

I have a question that I hopep you could answer for me.

I posted a message regarding to the outrageous tuition for IDP at UCSF ( compared to the regular program). Could you please tell me, as a current student, do you think IDP at UCSF is worth that much? What are the reasons they charge so much for "foreign dentists"? ( besides that it is a program that government doesn't sponsor etc....) Are IDP students better treated or better trained?

thanks

All ID programs are expensive. Some schools are slightly more expensive than the others but all in all IDP is a very expensive program no matter which school you look at.
The fee structure between schools is very close with a slight variation. It is the other expenses that make one program more expensive than the other, for eg the instrument cost , the living expenses etc.
If you choose SF or NY then the living expense will be more so the loan that you will need to apply to live there will be higher( the school doesn't benefit from this ) so the school will give you a higher estimate so you can get that amt when you apply for the loan.

Hope this helps.

Henna,

Do you mind sharing your financial aid knowledge here. Where to find loans, the companys offering....etc. Was it hard for you to get the sufficient amount of loans that you needed?

YOur input would be sooooo helpful.

When you go for the interview they will give you all the FA info that you'll require. I got a loan through TERI (private loan) I frankly wouldn't want you to apply there as they were the worst . The most irresponsible set of jerks I've ever come accross. I had to apply there as I didn't have any other alternative. I am sure things are better now you'll find better lenders to help you with the loan.

Hi Henna,
I have been accepted at UCSF and Boston. I have not made a decision between the two yet.

I have some questions; I would deeply appreciate if you could answer them for me.

Which school would you go to if you were in my position.
(Well, I do not have family/friends in either places)?

Can you give me an idea about the living expenditure in UCSF?

Do you think it is a good idea to take my car along while relocating to UCSF?

Thanks
Dileep Danivas.

Not too long ago I was in you position as well, I chose UCSF to BU, UOP, USC and NYU.
SF is a beautiful place too.

For info about housing and expenses you should ask the school admin.

Do you think it is a good idea to take my car along while relocating to UCSF?

Yes ( but that's just my opinion )

Thanks
Dileep Danivas.

thank you henna
glad to know that you are a bangalorean too.

Now, about the 'bringing car to San Francisco' question, can you tell me why you think that bringing a car is a good idea?

dileep

Because all Californians love to drive. As a fellow San Franciscan, the biggest problem with having a car here is finding a place to park it.

in SF, it is like driving your own roller coaster:wow:

I often see cars with wheels spinning and smoking going uphills...

It'd be crazy if it ever snows in SF......

Hi Henna,
you said "Not too long ago I was in you position as well, I chose UCSF to BU, UOP, USC and NYU."

Can you please tell me what was it about UCSF that you choose to go there?

thanks

hey heena...i always had this curiosity (and am sure many others do..) when did this whole SDN thing start, how did it initially take off and how did you become the moderator (i would assume that you were the 1st member of this forum....) also, how and when would the next moderator replace you.....does one get paid for this job?
ps: this is just being inquisitive and am no way intersted in being the next moderator out here...!

Actually this is rather easy to find out. Just go the very first threads of the forum and read them. They'll tell you the whole story, but to make a long story short, this was part of the Pre Dental Forum.

ya.I did that and found out that henna had another name too!!
Its really interesting to note the pattern of hot topics on the post..
And I think henna gets paid in terms of our well wishes:clap:

am sorry guys, am still not answered.....i donno what threads and introductions you'll are talking about....can you attach the link to that?

Hi Kajal,
There is an option at the end of the page where you can view the threads that were posted before 30 days.Just select 'view all' and then you can view I think around a total of 27 pages of discussion topics..Hope that helps🙂
