Hey guys,

I'm sorry if this was asked already but I was wondering, because Dec 1st is a Sat, but some schools send out acceptances in the mail, how do the schools know when to mail out the acceptances? Will they mail it out a few days earlier because I was thinking, if a school is in let's say New York and you live in California, do you think they'd be thoughtful enough to send out the acceptance to the Cali people early enough so that they still get their letter Dec 1st? haha...probably not but that would be so great to find out as early as possible!

Thanks!

I'll ignore the fact that this has been asked 1 billion times.

The mail still comes on Saturday last I checked. 😉

Haha...okay thanks Streetwolf 🙂 Sorry everyone! Don't kill me😛

This has been asked many times, but if you don't want to answer becuase it is annoying to you then don't answer.

The first day schools can inform you is Dec 1. That doesn't mean that they send it out on Dec 1. If they send it by mail, some schools will place the acceptance letter in the mail on Nov. 30, but it doesn't necessarily mean you will get the letter on Dec 1. I know I received 4 acceptances on Dec 4 when they were sent out on Dec 1. A couple of those schools as well as a couple others notified me on Dec 1 via e-mail in addition.

The waiting really stinks, but be as patient as you can. The LOA will get to you soon enough (even if that is the week before school starts for some people). Otherwise, your parents will kill you for wearing a path in their carpet for pacing back and forth all the time like my parents did.

I just had an interview at Howard on Friday and the speaker said that she can not send out notices until Dec. 1 based on ADEA rules. Since Dec. 1 falls on a Saturday this year, they will postmark the letters on Nov. 30, no earlier. She said they are not allowed to postmark before then so I guess Dec. 1 will be the earliest date to hear from schools for acceptances. Im sure all schools are the same regarding this.

From the UF website:

Note: At the ADEA Section on Dental School Admission Officers Annual Meeting in October 2007, schools came to a consensus that decisions will begin going out on Friday, November 30 for this year only due to the calender year.

AS a member of the ADEA I can confirm what dental0903 posted. The following is an email I received from the ADEA announcing their decision:

During the AFASA 2007 meeting in Omaha, we discussed the protocol for extending offers of admission when December 1 falls on a weekend, as it does this year. The consensus of the group was the following:

When December 1 falls on a Saturday, schools may begin notifying applicants of their acceptances on Friday, November 30.

When December 1 falls on a Sunday, schools may begin notifying applicants of their acceptances on Monday, December 2.
