  1. Pre-Dental
So I remember last year there was a topic on how and when each school notifies people of acceptances. I just searched for it and couldn't find it. Does anyone remember what it was called? Also, for schools that send emails at midnight, does each school have to wait until midnight local time or once it's midnight on the east coast can all schools let people know? Thanks.

(Yes I realize I'm getting ahead of myself, but I'm still excited. 5 and half weeks left!)

Not sure about your questions. Does every school decide on Dec. 1 for all pre-Dec interviews or does it vary?

i believe every school will notify their first acceptances on Dec 1st (to answer above question), i haven't heard of any schools who does not give their acceptances out on dec 1.
Although some schools will make decision of your acceptance on the day of your interview after each interview group (e.g. Louisville) or they will meet during certain ADCOM meetings prior to Dec 1st. to make decisions of students from several interview groups (e.g. OU meets on Nov 20, if i remember correctly, to make all the decisions of their out-of-state acceptances and they will not make any more acceptances after that. instead they will fill any open spots with more in-state students).

to answer OP's question, each school will use different systems (email, snail-mail. personal call from office/dean) and this can be asked and answered during your interview or if you already had your interview, you can call and ask the school.

I believe, some schools will notify on midnight where they set up automatic email system (Louisville said this during interview that they do this but one year their system went down and ppl freaked out, so they told us not to stay up until midnight to check our emails) whereas some schools will send out acceptances when they get to work in the morning.

Best would be either ask current dental students, look up previous Dec 1st. posts where accepted students start "official XXX school class of XXX" and see how they were notified (there are tons of these posts every year for almost every school), or to just call them and ask.

hope this helps a little

At the temple interview they told us that they send out acceptances at 8:00am on Dec 1.

I didn't get a single interview so far. Should I be worried about Dec 1st notifications? Does my chances go drastically down after 12-1 or something?

Nebraska told us at the interview that they send out acceptances starting Dec 15th, but other than that I would have to agree with you.

NYU told us that they will def. notify us by Dec. 1st.

The Dec 1st notifications we are talking about refer to first official day to send acceptances. After the 1st round of acceptances the spots will be harder to get into since there are few spots available.

Yeah, the search function really doesn't work that well. I actually found the "related articles" search function much better. When you're about to make a new thread and the site finds articles similar to the title you typed in.

As for post-Dec spots being harder to get into I do agree but I don't think its as bad as some people make it out to be. It depends on the school really, pre-Dec interviewees tend to be in the more competitive pool, generally speaking. Once they put in their deposits at their dream schools, the first round of heavy competition is already out. Yes there are less spots but there's also less 3.8/24AA applicants so for those who haven't heard back yet don't fret!

It really depends how much school does interview post Dec.
Marquette does not so you are out of luck right away there, am sure there more schools like that which will choose people from already interviewed ones rather than giving out new invites. Some schools will not send second round of invites until they count their Jan 15 deposits so by that time there is only few spots left. Most large class schools like NYU, BU, MWU, Tufts, USC will send significant number of invites although for Tufts things might be changing, they seems to have trend of increasing class but interviewing less and having class full earlier each year. With vertical expansion finished, school has a lot to offer. It remains to be seen what Louisville strategy is going to be as this is first year they increased number of OOS. Being that it is top choice for many applicants that get to interview there amount of invites might not increase despite the class size.

Oh okay haha yeah definitely didn't know about Nebraska and their acceptance date (didn't apply there and didn't do much research on the school).

I am guessing since they already have good reputation, they don't really worry about sending out their offer ASAP but it sucks for those students to wait for another extra 2 weeks after Dec 1st. 😡

My exact thinking as well especially since we have a limited time to respond to schools about the acceptances.

its too earrlllyyy to be talking about dec 1! I get butterflies just thinking about the wrench in my stomach that morning.. November is going to be the longest month of my life!

I'm glad I'm currently in school to keep me busy.

i interviewed at nebraska as well... one of the current students said that they send out acceptances at midnight of dec 1st. this seems to be congruent with what i know because my roommate in college found out he was accepted there during a party and proceeded to make out with four girls.
