Agree with the class rankings point. To make a counterpoint to the above comment, with step 1 going pass fail it’s now harder to be a big fish in a small pond. Internal rankings allow for a way to stand out. If you truly believe you have the work ethic and talent to compete w the best of the best and match derm, this should be a pro for you imo.
My biggest concern w Loyola is lack of research opps. With derm requiring the most research of any field, you’ll be facing an uphill battle. So long as you’re willing to network there will be alternative routes in Chicago, but it’s just another hoop for you to jump through in an already highly competitive field. While Vermont’s research funding is also nothing to write home about, it’s 3x that of Loyola, but you won’t have options outside of the school like you would in Chicago.
Have you made sure both schools have derm home programs? If so, it’s kinda a wash from where I’m looking at it. I’d also caution against making the decision on little nuances that may or may not help you match derm, when, statistically speaking, you’re more likely than not to change interests. Everyone on here likes the idea of derm… great pay and hours? Sure! But there’s plenty of time and reasons for you to be steered in a different direction.
I think go where you’ll be happiest… if you’re not into rural living or medicine, I can't see how that would be Vermont.
