Is UW Spokane a satellite campus of the flagship in Seattle or is it its own separate medical school ?
From what I’ve heard the engineering masters for EnMED really doesn’t seem to have practical application for practicing doctors, but you would do some great research in Med school. Also, I wasn’t aware that EnMED students are ranked against normal TAMU SOM students?
A degree from UW will fundamentally take you farther than a degree from A&M. With how competitive specialties are becoming, I'd go UW
Even though UW is primary care focused, is it still a strong option for someone interested in competitive specialties?
Hi! I don’t know much about the other two schools, but I was also admitted to UW Spokane. I think it provided an amazing learning environment, and students definitely did seem to have a lot of opportunities. I will say that I eliminated it as an option for me, as it was important for me to get continuity over four years (and I didn’t want to stay in Spokane), I wanted a dual degree that wasn’t offered there, and I don’t want to do a competitive specialty. If you’re aiming for a competitive specialty, UW could open doors. I also think the price difference is negligible in the long run (just my opinion), as you’ll be offsetting the cost by doing a competitive specialty.
However, I also think you have some other great options. I would look at the match lists and see if students have been matching into the competitive specialties you’re interested in. Also, consider how important the engineering degree is to you. Lastly, one piece of advice I recently got is that you will thrive if you are happiest/want to be at a place. Idk how helpful this was, but I hope it helps you weigh your great options.🙂
Thank you!! I also forgot to mention that after talking to a current student, you don’t necessarily have to be moving every 6 weeks (but I’d double check on that). It seemed like you can spend 75% of your time at your home base choice (either Seattle or Spokane) unless you do WWAMI Safari.Thank you I do appreciate your insight! The lack of continuity over four years has also made me a bit apprehensive haha
Each of the three schools have matched in my specialties of interest but it is a bit difficult to compare with EnMed’s graduating class being only 25 students!
Also I just saw ur X vs Y post and congrats on your amazing options!
